I think the Viper will suffice as the halo car, and the srt-8 is a good car for the money. The new 6.4L is a nice motor, if they go to an aluminum block it could be one hell of a setup. No, it will not compete with the ZL1 or GT500, but it is also significantly more affordable than those cars.

It will be interesting if the v10 makes into the Challenger. The Gen4 Viper V10 engine weighs 711 pounds, not sure how much the 392 hemi weighs, but the 392 is an iron block. We already know its a drop in, but the LC/Tremec cant handle the HP/TQ without some mods.
Regardless, the ZL1 and the GT500 are going to own the Challengers and Chargers on the track, both circuit and drag. If Dodge adds a blower to the 392, all we are going to see is 570hp or so and there will not be an option to make pulley changes and other tuning mods to help catch up with the ZL1 and GT500 power levels. Chrysler has stacks of Gen 4 Viper motors just sitting around with no homes. The Drag Paks are getting some of the motors. The next Viper will have a Gen 5 motor that will probable displace 8.7 liters or so and 700hp or so normally aspirated. The Viper is going to absolutely own the ZR1 unless Chevy makes some big changes next year, the last Viper is already was within .1 0-60 and 1/4 mile and the last edition ACR ran the Ring in 7:12. The ACR also ran Laguna Seca in 1:33! (Thats 7 seconds faster than a GT-R or LC Boss mustang and 2 seconds faster than the ZR1.) |

At this stage I wouldn't count anyone out of this race. Dodge might go viper sh*t on us and come out full steam with a 10 cylinder job.
We're in the big leagues now, and nothing should be taken for granted.

Supposedly they are working on a supercharged 6.4....which will most likely get single digit mpg....

Well I think Dodge has over priced themselves out of the game. A buddy has a SRT8 and he paid $48K and my 11 2SS is much faster ( stock to stock ), $13K cheaper and has a better resale value. I really do like all of the pony cars now but my heart and $$$ go to GM.

Chrysler just showed off the 300 426S, a 426 hemi crate engine 540hp 530 lb-ft torque. "" at the moment all they're trying to do is measure your reaction to the idea of it — and whether or not there's a real market for it"".
judging by that statement if they figure there's a market for it i could see dodge throwing that into a challenger to atleast "TRY" to compete. |
