So.. Started on the HUD install and let me say, this is a very intense project for something so simple. The difficulty is not so much in the HUD part but in the prep. It seems like 99% of the labor is simply getting everything out of the way. Practivally everything has to come out before the dash can. Complicating matters is the fact that, when installing all those interior LEDs, I would try to spider-wire as much as possible to save cable ties (and hide stuff), which has the nasty side effect of roping everything together (hey! I had no idea I would ever need to remove all this! Lol)

So far I've removed:
-unhooked battery
-center console
-undid and un-routed tons of wires (my led controllers are all in the center console area)
-removed shifter (pain on the automatic)
-removed 4-pack gauges
-still don't have the console out, but it's movable enough now I think (I have switches hard wired into it :( )
-radio
-cd changer
-speedometer gauges
-glove box, air duct, glove box mechanism, and cover plates.
-Both A pillars, dodging the airbags
-Bluetooth/onstar system (finally found it btw, above glove box)
-lithium backup battery
-trim panels everywhere
-and cables cables CABLES

Still have to do the:
-steering wheel
-get the entire dash out

Pics thus far

Yea I just have to pay the deductible $250, but I was talking to a coworker that use to own a shop and he was telling me that alot of shops won't work on car with major roof damage. Idk what how much this will hurt the value.

I have removing my HUD on my list. Wanting to change out the LEDs in it, since those are my only aqua LEDs left in the car. Just haven't had time. Good for you for tackling this.

First causality of battle:

So I when I got to the steering wheel and removed the main bolt (t-50 on a 2010 btw) basically nothing happened. I unclipped all the harnesses and the thing still wouldn't budge so I called ofer.

Turns out, if you have a serial # <40,000 (mine's in the 6's) the boys at the factory used way too much loctite. It was basically welded in there. He told me I should go to autozone and buy a "pull bar" or somewhat, a tool specially designed to pull off steering wheels. Me being me I was all "yeah forget that" and (again checking everything was unhooked) gave it a good tug. Good news is it came off! Bad news is, rather than that pair of twin cables being attached to the steering wheel, they connected to a harness *behind* the wheel. It snapped some plastic and broke a ribbon cable.

Cue the: ohshitohshitohshit.gif

Called ofer back, luckily I only broke the "clock spring coil", $40 part. Called a few local dealers and no one had it but it'll be in tomorrow. They charged me $52.

Oh well, luckily I can still do tons of other work in the meantime, and honestly I wasn't gonna have it back together any sooner than tomorrow anyways.

Live and learn!
