The ATS doesnt have ANYWHERE near the HP we do though

Agreed. The ATS is about luxury at the BMW 328 level and not about pure performance like the 1LE.

I just came off of a 335i because I couldn't get anymore performance out of it and I wanted a V8!

you wouldnt know all that with the way they portray in the comercials though. if i didnt know any better i would think the ats is gm's new track/street performance car and not the 1le or zl1. but i guess its because they want to sell more cadillac's and they sell plenty of camaro's.

The ATS also appeals to the broader audience vs the 1LE. I suspect, as you keenly mention, the profit margins are much better with the ATS. The other point to remember is that the 1LE appeals to the 2% of the Camaro enthusiast population. That's a very small number to waste marketing $$ on. Think about it, they are manufacturing close to 90 (87) cars per week or barely over 4,680 cars a year! GM sold 8.4 million cars globally in 2010.
