What makes you think a key is any more reliable to shut the engine off than a button? They both do the exact same thing in modern cars.

I for one want to keep the key start because the proximity fobs can be hacked very easily. For proof there was an article recently of a guy who watched two kids with a little $13 black box unlock his locked car on his driveway. I will keep my keys.

they GM will never do a push button start, too much $$$. Not enough benefit. I remember my fathers early 50's chevy with a push button start. But the key needed to be in and turned to the ON position. Good luck.

Just say parts cost $100 and labor to remove the old system and install the new is 8 hours at $90 an hour, for every car that would be $820. Multiply that times 500,000 cars and you get $410 million dollars.
Its much more costly to retrofit than to install as the car is built. That is not even including the cost of engineering of the system they would need to do it. It ain't going to happen...

If people are too dumb to push and hold a button, they are too dumb to turn a key. They are also too dumb to shift to neutral and too dumb to slam on the brakes.

To all you naysayers that say that it won't happen...If it's on the Mustang, the Camaro will have it too. *cough* Recaro's

Sorry if this has been said in a previous post but
Don't for minute think that any company is going to replace a $5 recall with a $? say $100 by the time you pay to have the parts installed? Remember they would have to get to the ignition wiring and plug in the push button and drill the dash for the button. I'm not arguing for or against the gen 6. The intent of this post was about the recall. Currently they are taking the key off the switch blade and providing a separate key. So what? maybe $5. Now what does it cost to make and install a push button????? Get my point? I think the next part of the story is something about pigs flying or hell. Come on guys think. Put your time into something that will actually happen.

This is about the recall and them replacing the ignition switch in the existing Camaros with push button start, not that they may put it in the 6th gen.

This is really goofy.
Not just because push-button is an unrealistic fix...but also because this recall is an over-cautious, company-wide preventative measure to help stupid-proof people. Keep the five pounds of crap off your key chains and you'll never have the issue addressed by the recall in the first place.... I'll keep my switchblade key, thanks very much, GM & NHTSA... |
