Sonoma Raceway 2015 - ambulances, Ferrari's and HANS

Wow. This is one mother of a course! Hills and more hills. Blind crests and off camber pavement. Walls and more walls within a few feet of the track. It'll eat you alive.

We had three black flag incidents today requiring ambulances, forklift, and tracking cleaning equipment.

1/Ferrari F430 Challenge caught fire and dumped oil.
2/Brand new 911 GT3 without plates and with the California windshield "I'm brand spanking new" sticker tore up his whole right side and had to be towed out.
3/A mustang cobra and his owner are in need of repair though the owners medical tests came out OK apparently but he may have a super sore neck. The car front ended a wall.

A woman was there with three of her Ferrari's including an Enzo. She didn't wreck any! Gorgeous cars. My god.

I hired a coach knowing how challenging this course can be and not knowing the line. Best thing I could've done. I also bought a Hans at Wine Country Motorsports. With my new BK harness mount bar and Schroth harnesses I was worried the neck could snap in an impact. Good thing I bought it seeing all the issues and crashes today. If you don't have a Hans I highly recommend it.

Here's a short video the one session I recorded it. Comments welcome.

Nice job CRT, I HATE that track....there are scars on every inch of the walls, I like my car too much to run it again. I just book EVERY Laguna Seca day available, it's a tough course too, but without all of the walls. Hope to see you our there sometime. So what color was the cobra? a nice red one?

I'm not fast really. My G's never went over 1.0 in that video; I'm still learning. And given your car could be eaten alive I was caution.

A couple cars in my intermediate group were faster. An R8 and an open wheel thing. There was a Cayman who I passed by but then passed. Having a coach who knows the track REALLY helped a ton. Oh the cobra had passed me at one point too.

Im with Backeddie, Sears Point has way too much concrete everywhere. There is no margin for error anywhere that I know of. Good run Brian, glad to see you played it safe at that place.

CRT, Nice drive. Sears is a very technical track and take a lot of patience.
Installing a HANs requires specific angles and width at the point where the belts engage the HANs to be effective.

Oh, I've always wanted to run Infineon...I have a plan...near-term in the future, every summer I intend to take a road-trip out to a track I've never been to before...put track stickers all over my garage as "trophies". One day, when I get up the cash, and balls....I'm shipping a car to the Nordschleife in Nuremburg, Germany. .....one day.

That looks like you had a blast - sorry to hear of all the damages and incidents, but glad it wasn't you!

What equipment were you using to record your run like that with all the data displayed?

That's him, dude. Name is Steve. I think I'll send him regards on behalf of C5 1LE'ers. HOD said people could send him a message.

I had WineCountryMotorSports do the helmet installation so that's solid. My harness is a Schroth ASM which is HANS approved. My harness is BK http://www.bkauto.com/R_1150_Harness...r_p/r-1150.htm so hopefully that's close the required 4" inner to inner belt span that's required.
