LS3/LS7 Auto ?
We've got the blues now with the SS, how about adding a box to check for LS3/auto or LS7/auto, Anybody interested in checking this box ? "COPO"

I would, if it would happen, but I don't think it will either. I don't think the 6L80 will handle the RPMs or the power either and can't see a 6L90 cutting it either because of the RPMs. I'll have to see if I can find some documentation.
Cool idea, but I just don't see it happening, mostly because 'Father already said so :(

Y'know, and I'm just being dorky, but the COPO cars were ordered under the same umbrella as fleet and police vehicles. Aren't they not eligible for CAFE standards? GM could (technically) sell an LS7 with a Turbo 400 and not worry about CAFE.....
Never gonna happen. Just some food for thought.

will certainly never happen with an auto.
COPO stuff was installed at the dealer. I can see a dealer doing an LS7 like Harwell, Berger, etc... expect it to cost $50k+ from a dealer though :( |

Check teh threads here the LS3 and L99 are essentially the same motor, with the LS3 losing a feature (cyl deactivation). That said keep dreaming, the days of low production factory freaks are long gone....

COPO was the way you were able to order a 427 (and some other goodies) in a Camaro straight from the factory. |

FWIW, Autoblog posted some shots of an LS7 Camaro concept car from SEMA. This is probably a repost of the link, but appropriate for wetting appetites in this thread.
Autoblog Linky I would be tempted by the ability to order this from a dealer, but there's no way I'm putting down $50k on a Camaro. The problem with a concept like this is that it cannot be a $40k Corvette Z06. |

You can already get an LS3 with the Auto, they're just calling it "L99" to be silly...
I dunno. I don't think 20 hp would be worth any extra costs involved to produce the car as a whole. Nor would I feel like giving up the AFM just to say "LS3", imo. |

Would an LS7 really need a 400? I'm not arguing, I'm only asking. Maybe because either six-speed autos (6L80 and 90) won't rev' up to the LS7 redline? Quote:
You can make your own 427 with the 6.2 anyways with a little bore and some stroke

Stock, no. Modded? Absolutely. Especially if you're drag racing the car When you start making the kind of power a TT LS7 can make, OD trannys usually don't hold up nearly as well. If I were building a drag car, I'd gut that bad boy out, throw an F1 on there, and drop in a Turbo 400. No need for the extra gears and I'd rather have the stronger 3-spd. I still want my high rev+handling package Z/28 though. But that's just me.

The 6Lxx series of auto trannies are all very similar in design. The difference lies in their power-handling abilities. I don't know the exact relationship, but I know for sure: the higher the last two numbers (50, 80, 90, etc) the tougher they're built (materials, gear thickness in some cases) in order to handle higher torque capacity of the engine they're mated to. The 6L50 can rev to 7000 (see: Cadillac V6 DI), so I have no doubts the 6L80 can, too. After all; it's already revving to ~6600 in the LS3 Vette.
