Well, I am taking my bone stock Automatic transmission 2010 Camaro 2SS to the track tomorrow(pending the weather holds of course). So, we will know how fast it is. Then the mods will begin, we have our Prototype intake system partially done, and I ran into some bugs with the beta tuning software in which I am awaiting a fix before I continue progression on tuning. Stay posted, I am pretty sure the Auto Trans will prevail, or I wouldn't have bought one for the business for our project... I guess time will tell...

Thanks for calling BS for me!

I disagree though. If that is a bone stock TA he is racing he should take that with a new Camaro. A professional driver took a stock 2002 M6 Camaro 12.9x in GM Hi-Tech. Unless you son is that good, he is probably running a low to mid-13. A new SS should be able to run that no problem even without the break-in. It should be a lot closer than 4-lengths.

See if you can get someone to hook a scanner up to it while you are driving and you might get some clues there.

Im in the same boat except my GTO is fully modded.

The Camaro hands down is a better built car.

My L99 is very fast, it seems to have the get up and go. My husband had it up to 104 mph and had plenty of peddle left.

Elevation is important, the PCM/TCM is far more advanced than what is in your son's car. Your new Camaro has a Barometric pressure sensor, your son's car doesn't.

Another thing that is HUGE is fuel, what octane fuel are you using, and what is your son using? The knock sensors on your car are WAY more sensitive than what he has. Your car will spark knock 6 degrees with a quick snap of the throttle on 87 octane, your sons will not.

Also, if your son's car has 325 rwhp, it isn't stock. Your car is stock which we are seeing 325-345 rwhp in stock form due to drivetrain loss, the LS1 Transam was underrated hp wise and made more stock, but should have been around 300 rwhp(is your son's car modded?). Your car weighs a few hundred more lbs than his.

Is your son's car a stick or auto? Maybe he is getting better at shifting if it is a stick if this is the case?

Ok, I can literally go on forever here, but I really should stop now, far too many variables to this conclusion. Bring me your car and I guarrantee you will win after, lol, but seriously, answer those questions and maybe something can come from them. Some cars are faster than others, what I have never heard of is a stock LS2 GTO pulling away from a stock 02 Transam by 4 car lenghts, that don't happen around here, usually the Transam has a better shot at that one, but again too many variables.

Start modding, and you will get consistant once you are tuned in.

But, it doesn't hurt to get things checked out first, so dynoing your car isn't a bad idea either.
My son's car has an air box and a cat back exaust, but it did before when we raced with the GTO, his is automatic as well. Bottom line the GTO stock beat the Trans am at the end of the quarter mile by about 4 car lengths. All the car tests that were done on the GTO they had the car running about a 13.40 quarter mile times, the Camaro at a 13.10 so with all things being equal my new Camaro should beat the same Trans Am by 6 car lengths and it is not. It has never felt powerful. I have driven performance cars all my life and I know 400 HP when I feel it. Thanks for your imput.

When you raced with TC off how high did you rev the rpms to with the brake applied? I have had a hard time getting my launch dialed in but I finally figured it out. I had TC off and reved with the brake to just over 2,500 rpms. Keep the transmission in S-mode.

You cannot launch this car udner 2,500 rmps and except to shoot out of the hole.

Stop all this Tranny Puke!

Four car lengths against the kids goat, isn't a tranny issue.

There is obviously something wrong with fuel management or timing.

Somewhere the Suck Squeeze Bang and Blow is off kilter, it is not how he is operating the tranny.

Take It In And Have It Checked.

i'm just sayin......

I dont quite get what youre trying to compare here, but if its the camaro. It's not 4000lb its 3860lb, but even if it was a 4000lb car the weight to power ratio that you posted would be about the same.

3500 / 320 = 10.76
4000 / 370 = 10.81

I dont understand why people get so worked off about weight.

Now this are flywheel numbers.

WS6 Trans Am 3500 / 325 = 10.76
Camaro SS 3860 / 426 = 9.06

For a Trans am to have the same weight to power ratio as the camaro it would need to have 386hp, so there's thats 61 more horses in power to be in sub par with the Camaro and only 30 less than what the camaro has stock.

You do the math.

I have a 2002 35th SS convert. ( LS1) and a 1999 coupe SS both 6 speeds/ LS1's
The 2002 is actually rated 5hp more by the factory (no big Deal) but my 99 Can run Circles around the 02. It is a lot quicker.

I drove a 2010 2SS/6speed last week ( Like I owned it) Friend of mines car and I must
say I was a little disappointed.

I have a lot of camaro's street rods etc so I know how to drive them hard just wasn't as fast as I though it would be. I think my 99 could take it.

One variable worth mentioning is...The LS engines seem to really run alot better with 10,000 or so miles actually the more the better so far. My 99 has 15,000 miles ,convert less than 1000 !

2SS Less than 500.

I was in the same thought process... my 99 faster why buy new one.

Well,

First off...The 2010 cars are really a much better built car and it is very noticable while driving it. 4th Gen are like Tin Cans (or Should I say mustangs, Not to affend anyone)
a lot of road noise and such....Not so in 2010

So....What did I do about this....

I kept my order and placed an order for a Magnusun Supercharger and full exhaust (Headers back...Borla) and a GMPP Airbox.

Problem solved. Best of both worlds and still 10 grand cheaper than a shelby mustang. More RWHP and a much better ride!
