Wildlife in engine bay

Hi guys,

recently, I've been finding pieces of peanut shells, and oval shaped things, which i assume is some kind of rodent poo... in my engine bay! My car is parked outside... but when I drive it, I dont see any signs of wildlife leaving my car.

So, two questions. Have any of you experienced wildlife living in your engine bay? if so, how did you deal with it.

Secondly, if the rodents are still inside my engine bay as im driving, do you think there are dead bodies everywhere? LOL

Yea, not too concerned at the moment... just dont like finding poo everywhere. As long as they dont eat my wires or anything... I'll be fine with them keeping warm... just dont POO!

Sounds like you might have rats? You need to get them out of there. Not only will they eat your wires, plastic, and other soft materials, but they'll piss all over the place and it won't smell good. The smell will make its way into the ventilation system.

I had a rat problem in an F150. They ate through the plastic piece at the end of the block, built a nest, and ate the wires inside. There was nearly $1000 worth of damage and the truck was never the same.

The first thing to do is find out what there feeding on (garbage), either yours or your neighbors. Be diligent about putting garbage in sealed containers and begin eradication. Make sure you work with your neighbors on this too. It will not be easy.

Good Luck

Clorox toilet freshener bar in engine bay. I remember the article from when I was a kid in the mid '90s. It was in the Dutch version of autoweek if I remember correctly. Never tried it myself, but a lot of people said it worked. Supposedly the smell is subtle enough to be unnoticeable for us, but not for the little critters. Either way I would say it is worth a try.

Had this problem before. Soaked a rag in ammonia and tucked it out of sight in the engine compartment. Never had a problem again! Now I have a garage for all my cars!
Worked for a skunk who made his home under my pool deck last year!

If you have rats you need to get rid of them quick. Might try hosing down the engine bay in the middle of the night?

Set out poison and traps around the front end and underneath the front end for a night or two. Don't need those rats chewing the insulation off your wiring.

Buy a couple of boxes of D-con mouse poison and set them under your car. This will take car of them.

Don't waste any time with those filthy rodents. I've had them in boats before and, besides making a big mess they can cause serious damage. They peeled off the metal casing of a AA battery I had in a drawer, so chewing on wiring is like candy to them

My daughter lives in rural Nevada and last summer they found their way into her Dodge Caliber A/C system???
She called one day to say her heater fan was making a loud noise, and sure enough when we removed the blower motor, the cage was full of nest material.

She found rat turds on the valve cover, so thats were she put the rat pellets. Worked, end of story.
