convertible question

does driving the car with the convertible top down and the tonneau cover not on cause any damage to the top?

If we were meant to drive with the cover on, GM would of included it in all options on the Convertible. My 1SS doesn't have it and neither do the 1LT.

I was just making sure I wasn't doing any damage especially while driving at highway speeds. I can see the wind catching the top piece of the top kind of making it flap in the wind.

I have not had any issues. While the cover gives a more finished look, I am afraid it is going to fly off at highway speeds. I see too much vibration from it at 45 mph in town.

I've seen less wear by not using it

I can tell you that the cover if installed will stay put and not blow off at speeds above 140 mph. :-)

I know the clip design was changed from the 2011, and I just don't trust mine.

i drove my 13 vert yesterday for first time without putting the tonneau cover on. i didnt like the way the top flapped just going 50 mph. i was more focused in watching it than driving . it really seemed to flap, maybe cause it was the first time i had top down without the tonnueau, but wasnt going to keep the top down long. but, since i have one, 2LT, i am going to use it all the time for now on

Hey Kevin, I am glad to hear you are loving your purchase. I know what you mean about watching the top flapping in the wind. I have the cover with the bungy cords. It stays on there very securely with no movement at any speeds. I usually use it all of the time because I don't like the flapping in the wind of my top

I put mine on if I'm doing any highway driving, around town I usually leave it off.

I normally only put the cover on when I know I will be driving on the interstate highways. But I believe at 55 or 60 mph it does not hurt anything.

I still have the original, old-style, clip-on tonneau cover and have driven with it on at speeds greater than 65 mph numerous times and it's always held. Although there has been very slight movement of the cover at times, I never got the impression (while driving and peering into the rearview mirror) that it would nor ever never did come loose.

When I'm doing local driving or short beltway hops, I often don't use the tonneau cover. The biggest pain for me when affixing it is that I'm always concerned about my belt buckle scratching the paint.

Although my tonneau has no damage (especially underside "delamination" as some originals have suffered) I believe I'm going to upgrade to the bungee one within the next month or two. My dealer always sends me coupons for up to $100 off on parts or service. That'll make the change a bit more palatable.
