Tap Shift on the Stick

Anyone know of a replacement shifter to relocate the tap shift off of the steering wheel and onto the shifter itself? If not, does anyone know how to do this? Gear shifts suck while cornering!

Don't shift while cornering!

Shift down as you slow for the corner. Then steady throttle during the turn.
Upshift, if required, as you straighten the wheel to straight ahead and accelerate.

Honestly, I imagine what you want to do is impossible or certainly cost prohibitive.

Cheers.

tap shift buttons suck

Lets face it GM let us down on this. You can not drive the car fast while corning and use the shift feature. The paddles are buttons that require you to place your hads at 9 & 3. Lets hope someone makes a replacement system.

I'm with you on this one, I don't understand the problem. Whether you have an auto or a stick you shouldn't have to shift in the middle of the turn.

+1

You guys need to learn how to shift if you're actually doing it while in a turn

With a little bit of rain or oil, your rear tires will get buttery to say the least.

The TAPshift system works great. The only problem with it being the small delay when downshifting while pressing on the gas.

9 and 3. That's where your hands are supposed to be.

Cheers.

You shouldnt be trying to shift while cornering. Downshift before the corner, accelerate just before the beginning-middle point of the corner and shift on exit of corner. Thats how my mom taught me to drive a stick and I have never had any problem with shifting... learn to shift right after the corner and you'll have no problems. Like a few people said, 9 and 3 are where your hands are supposed to be.

The thought is you have better control in the corner with your hands on the wheel.

So please stop with the "GM let us down". It is basically something you don't like and that's ok.

The Base CTS has the tap up/down on the shift lever as you are suggesting. Pull it to the side and push or pull the lever to shift. The all conquering CTS-V, however, has the exact same shifter buttons on the steering wheel as our beloved Camaro. Good enough for the V, good enough for the Camaro.

So it isn't a failure it's just a preference that you have.

My only real complaint about the tap shift setup, well 2 complaints, is the size of the buttons (too small) and the delay in activation. There's a 2-300 RPM delay between pressing the button and the shift. European marque manufacturers get it done in milliseconds. Granted, you pay for that speed but a little quicker would definitely be better for me!

Tap shift stinks for sure, way too long of a delay and a very poor location.
