I am reading my local paper this morning and came across this article.. needless to say I was kind of surprised. Has anyone heard about a 4-cyl being produced?

The 2009 model year is just around the corner and it looks like it’s going to be another hectic season of change with more wagons, more fuel-efficient vehicles and even more speed. Hang on for a fast ride into the future!

General Motors

Chevrolet’s all-new Camaro arrives early next year in coupe and convertible body styles. A fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine is being touted as the base powerplant, but SS models will feature a Corvette-based 6.2-liter V8. Speaking of the Corvette, the ZR1 shows of its carbon fiber body parts and a thundering 635-horsepower supercharged V8. Only 2,000 ZR1s are planned for the first year. A more practical Chevy is the Traverse, the newest member of GM’s full-size wagon-ute family that includes the GMC Acadian, Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave. Although not exactly new, a Solstice Coupe joins the roadster in Pontiac’s lineup, which also includes the second-gen Vibe. Finally, the H3T pickup joins the H3 roster for 2009.

Yes....we have heard a 4 cyl. turbo was possibly going to be the base engine to replace the 260hp base V6. But nothing official yet.

Nothing really new. Just relevant data. Actually, I was impressed with how accurate it was. Go figure.

Chevrolet Camaro fans have looked longingly at the concept cars at auto shows and pored over the steady stream of spy photos of prototypes. Internet message boards are filled with talk and speculation about body styles, powertrains and transmission choices--even the potential for a return of the T-top.

It's still months before the reborn Camaro reaches dealer showrooms, but Chevrolet is ready to give us an up-close look at the production version, on Monday, July 21, at 4 p.m. Eastern.

That's when General Motors executives at the automaker's technical center in suburban Detroit will pull the sheet back and talk about the 2010 Camaro. And you can watch it via the Internet. The link is http://camaro.gmnext.com.

But it's not as if we're totally in the dark about the car until then. For testing purposes (or in a cunningly crafted PR campaign), GM product chief Bob Lutz early this year ordered all camouflage to be stripped off Camaro prototypes. And Camaro sightings by spy photogs--professionals and amateurs--have been numerous.

Here are some things we know:

-- The engine lineup will include a 6.0-liter V8 rated in excess of 400 hp and an overhead-cam 3.6-liter V6 that will make more than 300 hp. That V6 is used in the Cadillac CTS, where it is rated at 304 hp.

At the New York auto show last March, Lutz said that GM was considering a turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the Camaro, in the wake of rising fuel costs. Mentioned was the 260-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four used in the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky.

-- There will be automatic and manual transmissions.

-- The Camaro coupe will come off the line first, with sales beginning in February 2009. The convertible will follow in November. Some prototypes have been seen with a sunroof--but sorry, no T-tops.

-- Spy photographers have captured what looks to be a Camaro SS, sporting a blacked-out grille and massive Brembo brakes.

-- GM design chief Ed Welburn said that interior design of the production Camaro will be similar to that of the concept cars but with refinements in the placement of controls and in the materials used.

GO Johnny! Just found Shortcircuit on Blu-Ray but not sure if SCII will come out.

I too am looking forward to the evolution of the 5th Gen. Although my current 68 isn't drivable and needs a restoration, and minus a 6 year period between 68 RS1 and 68 RS2, I've had a 68 Camaro since high school. Wish I had RS1 back but having a Camaro around since 1975 minus the 6yrs is cool in my book. Maybe when I finish my gig here, I can get a shop and get her restored. I'm rambling again. Outta here!

I have Monday and tuesday off. I'll get to watch the unveil live and then get to go harass the dealership to make sure that they are viewing the IDL to keep me up to date. I already sent them an e-mail about it to make sure that they were aware of it.
