2009/2010 Chevrolet Cruze

Quote:
A new name and a new design for an all-new car

Chevrolet Cruze

Detroit - Chevrolet announced today that its all-new entry in the compact segment will be called Cruze. The new Chevrolet will make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show in early October.

Cruze was developed by a global design and engineering team and will be built in multiple locations around the world. The Cruze approaches an overall length of 4.6 meters and offers ample interior space and cargo capacity for five passengers, giving it an advantage over competition in the compact segment.

The Cruze features Chevrolet's new global design language that will continue to be a signature element for future vehicles carrying the gold bowtie. Combined with high safety standards and excellent build quality, Chevrolet will again deliver on its promise of offering a very attractive package at an exceptional value.

The new Chevrolet Cruze will be available in European markets in Spring 2009, followed by other global regions.

Could this be the new small, 40+mpg car we've been catching pictures of? The supposed Cobalt replacement?

4.6 meters is within an inch of the length of the current Cobalt, so that sounds like the car.

Probably "cruise". If you look at the Chevy Beat, Groove, and Trax, I think that Chevy is trying to go for car names that sound nice.

Or at least car names that sound "hip" and "fresh" and "funky." Something that the kids who pop-lock, breakdance, and play those newfangled Pac-Man Video Games can identify with. And they made the name radical to the max by putting a "Z" in where a "Z" isn't supposed to go.

Yeah, I'm not fond of "Cruze" as a name. Cobalt would be just fine.

STOP MAKIN FUN of my car because a stage 2'd ss superchared would have 305 hp and would probably if it had a good cai and exhaust walk a 01 ss

Another take: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=128686#2

I skipped this thread for a while because I thought it was talking about some Chevy enthusiast cruise, like Woodward.

Personally, I hate the name Cruze. Cobalt is not a damaged name. Replacing it will just confuse people. Besides killing off a basic compact model after one generation looks pretty bad. How long has Toyota stuck with the Corolla? How long has Honda had the Civic?

Otherwise I'm feeling meh about it for now. 40 mpg with only a few hp loss is certainly stellar, but the styling isn't quite doing it for me. I should also hope they keep an 260 hp TC SS model.

edit: Sorry, I mistook the picture in the IL article as the Cruze. I do like the IVER mule shank posted. I still hate the name Cruze.
