max boost from a maggie
I have a 417 maggie car now. Just wondering what the max boost they will put out safely. Planning on upgrading the 8 rib and building a 10 rib setup or maybe 12 rib.

I run 16.5psi on a 10 rib. I don't have any belt slip, and can pulley down once more.

This is prob a stupid question but, where do u find the different rib belts and pulleys? I have found the regular 6 rib ones.

Lingenfelter has a 10 rib kit. But it is not cheap. I am machining my own setup because i have a machine shop at my disposal.

Belts are available at any auto store, amazon, etc.
Max boost will be determined by heads/cam/etc. You could put a restrictor plate between the blower and see 30psi if you want, or with great flowing heads/motor you may see a lot less. The Maggie has a set amount of air it will move, not set pressure.

LeftCoast'32 has an 8 rib thats reasonably priced. No belt slip. They sell a blower pulley with grooves cut perpendicular to the grooves, no slip whatsoever. On that 417 depending on cam, head flow, and CR, you should see in the 16-18 range on an overdriven rear and overdriven front with a 2.8-2.9 blower pulley

Does the pulley come with a six pack of belts? Or is it not to bad on them. Great concept. Just wondering how reliable it is? Meaning belt fray or breakage. If it works im in for it.

The grooved pulleys like that typically do eat belts faster than normal. Just change the belt every other oil change or so and you should be fine.

The RIP pulley helped with the belt slip but def didn't cure it. In the high rpms the slip was still present. I ran an 8 rib 3.2 at the track. Car was going 10.06-.08 (on 6 passes). Changed it to a 3.4 non rip pulley and the care went 10.0 on the last 4 passes. The was no additional belt wear running the RIP pulley and I used it for a season. Without the spacer you won't see anywhere near 18 psi, especially on a 417. |

If you're serious about big boost on a 417 cubed motor, do yourself a favor, and get a bigger blower or a couple of turbo's. Maggies are great blowers (I'm running two of them), but they are out of their league with big boost on big cubes.

I agree. But im on a limited budget. I got a steal on a fully built adm built lpe 417 maggie car. It has all the bells and whistles. I just want all i can get with what i have to work with. Im going 15 inch conversion slicks and skinnies 3.73 gears. Car has full pedders supercar suspension. Next build will be big. Lsx twin turbo.
