No engines are confirmed. None. some have been denied, ie it has been confirmed that they will not go in, but other than that, nothing

LS2 and LS7. Also LS6, but it was bizarre that someone suggested that anyway considering it was killed off a while ago. 3.8 V6s as well are scheduled to go on the chopping block before the Camaro reaches production.

yes...it's open. Along with the L76, a 6.0L V8, and any 'surprise' Gen-V engine that GM might be able to cook up in time
So it's still a guessing game. |

i thought they just said the ls2(6.0) was out? and as far as a D.I 6.2 is that what you meen by what they can cook up?

no, no, no...not LS2. it's another variant of the small-block architecture called the L76. a 6.0L 361 hp 380 lb/ft +/- engine. with some fuel saving goodies.
What I meant was that Gen-V is still in the pipes as far as any of us know, and the most we can hope for is that it will be ready for a spectacular new-engine release in the Camaro. And as far as DI...that's not all a Gen-V is , it's a big part; but here check this out: Generation V small block thread |

so would the DI have a good possibility to be the ,i guess, base model v8? or is there somthing else that will go below that and then somethig over that?

It's extremely hard to answer a question like that. GM has been really good at keeping their mouths shut on this car.
We can only list possible engines, and even the number of powerplants is still up in the air. Making it, again, difficult to answer above, below, high, low questions. Your best bet is to read up on some engine threads here, and take a look at a few stickys that were thrown up in the engines section. Then apply you're newfound knowlege to what you think a Camaro should be, and formulate your own opinion. If you finish with your head spinning and can't figure out which engine GM is most likely going to use...then you're one of many who feel the same way. |

if i had to pick now i would say that atleast the 6.2 will be used. since it is in the vette and they have always used a version of the vettes motor in the camaro. as far as the rest of the motors i have no idea

A basic recap:
The LS7 was too expensive, and they'll be replacing it with another 500+hp engine anyway. The L76 makes sense because the G8 uses it and the G8 uses the same platform as the Camaro, plus it still beats the base V8 engines from Ford and Chrysler. They also said at the autoshows that they wanted the Camaro to have AFM, which the L76 does. LS3 makes sense because they did have 400 hp in the concept car, and they may not want to drop below that. It is used in the Corvette, another indication we may be getting it. Then there are the other LS variants with superchargers in the pipeline that are expected to make 500+hp, so those could very well be used as a high-performance V8 to counter the GT500 and the SRT8. Then there are the Gen Vs, but we know very little about those, including release dates so those are the real wildcards in the mix. |

wasn't it said that the LS2 in the Concept represented the top Camaro? And also that they are not worried about the 6.1L hemi? Put those together with the fact that there will not be an LS2 means to me that the LS3 should be the top engine when they come out. If thats the case, then GM is leaving the GT500's to the Corvette.

yeah they said they werent worried about the 6.1 hemi and they said if they did any bigger(dodge) that they had an extra 500 hp if needed. which tells me that the 6.2 di will be the regular v8 model and the 6.2 s/c (from the z51 vette) will be the z28 or ss model. so i think there will be 2 v8 models but essentially the same 6.2 motor. i hope they dont mess around with putting a smaller motor than the 6.2 in for a lower base model v8.
