Reliable build for boost.

I am looking to start a build for around 10lbs of boost, something to be safe as a daily. I have looked at TSP and Vengeance for full long blocks. TSP recommends a LSA block for over 10lbs. I really want to do a D1 I already have a ZL1 fuel pump I think I should be good there for feeding with proper injectors. I am looking for right around 600-630rwhp max I want none of the problems associated with more. Here is where I am torn with choices;

418 stroker TSP reccommend LSA block on their website is this really necessary with only 10lbs of boost?

415 from vengeance

or for my power goals should I just say screw it and go N/A with an LSX block build from Vengeance or a LS3 block 429 build from TSP........

This is an opinion. But it's a waste of money to build an engine and only go for 600whp. Especially with a centrifugal. The ls3 is a stout engine. Good tune an ls3 should live long at only 600whp. So I pick ls3 with a centri. D1 won't have very strong powerband at such a low power. S trim will save money and get the job done. Also Ecs t trim is great with the restrictor plate. (Leads to a very strong power band in the 600 range) once again just an opinion. Good luck with the build.

I agree, 600rwhp doesn't need anything but the blower/turbos/etc.

That being said, if you do a motor, do as nice as you can afford. Doing it twice when you decide 600rwhp isn't enough would suck.

Yeah well I am going to be building thats already decided, gonna keep my original as a nice spare. I have seen some pretty mean n/a builds lately might just go that route on a LS3 block. My last vehicle was procharged and I loved it but raw muscle might just be what I need for a street beater (never go to the track)

Build your LS3 block, keep it stock stroke and bore. You will still have the motor, and it won't be heavily modified. Trust me, building these motors is a huge pain, I am struggling to find parts for my car right now; it sucks. 600whp doesn't need a new motor (not even internals), just a waste. Heck, forged pistons with head and main studs would take care of it and be overkill.

The LS3 stock with boost will make more power than you will ever use on the street,
Must have a good tune and will live a long life. 600rwhp ain't much.
I'm at 11psi Vortech v-3 715rwhp mucho fun....very traction limited though.

yup not really needed to fully build the motor at only 600 rwhp if your tuner know's what they are doing. if you want to go over all the different options and get some pricing let me know. either pm, email, or call 480-359-5914

I'm with the other folks, building a motor is definitely not necessary for what you want to achieve. But I understand what it's like to be bit by the bug and having a complete LS3 sitting around isn't a bad deal either (old hotrod anyone??).

But, I digress - we had a 418 built from Texas Speed and I am very happy with it. It went in one of our builds - 2010 Camaro 418ci (check out this link for more info). We did a Procharger F1R on it and made 800hp on 15lbs. Way more than you want to make, but just wanted to show you the potential there in case you get hungry for more later on.

Oh I know I will get hungry later but for now I have been leaning towards the TSP long blocks

Get a quality short block and ported heads. Get professional advice on a cam choice and you will have some flexibility for future upgrades if you choose. I'm pretty sure it won't take 10 psi of boost to get you to the 600 WHP range. If you have a solid short block and you want to push it to 700 WHP or so you should have no issues with additional fuel system upgrades. Personally I would run what you have now at the 600 level untill it gives you some signs of wear and then build. I can certainly understand you wanting to have some reliability built into the engine. However, it's pretty solid at 600 as it comes from GM . Good luck. Either way it'll be awesome with the blower on it.

You can build a motor that will do 700whp, but everything behind it ain't built for it.

I have sured up my rear a bit already hence why I am only wanting around 630 max, from my understanding 630hp is about where things start to break, I have upped my rear suspension and solid cradle bushings , lpe gears, JRE posi mod. Tranny / clutch isn't that big a deal to me I can blow those out and swap em myself when the time comes. Main thing here is longevity and reliability of the motor.

The 418 won't do 630 any better than your 376, it's just throwing money at something that doesn't need to be fixed really. There won't be real benefit over what you have, and if you want the added reliability, some work on your car can do just that. Swapping these motors isn't just dropping in that long block, it's a big PITA.
