Camera Rear view mirror

Any more info on the rear view mirror using a camera? I haven't seen this on a car before, and if it works off the rear HD camera it may help significantly with the blind spots.

That is a very cool feature. I wonder how much it would cost to retrofit the 16-18 Camaro with this feature once the 2019 is released.

I drive one of these Cadillacs everyday and I constantly flip it back to the regular mirror. The Camera has a pretty short view angle, especially when someone is up close behind you or tailgating. It doesn't add much to what a regular mirror does unless there was cargo or passengers that would block the traditional mirror which is what it's meant for, replacing a mirror if you don't have a view. Originally designed for the CT6 which has a slim rear window and any adult passengers that would be in the back would block your view. They just started putting it on every other Cadillac model.

My wife and I test drove an Escalade a few weeks ago that had the rear view mirror camera and we both thought it was awesome...at least for that size vehicle. It was like magic eliminating all those headrests, pillars, seats, and tinted windows from view! The resolution was REALLY quite good too.

I will say that driving with it on constantly would take some getting used to...as it is so sharp and clear it might be a bit distracting at first. But being able to see ALL 4 lanes of traffic unobstructed behind the car on the freeway was pretty darn cool. I could see its benefit in the Camaro since visibility is so often raised as an issue (I'm used to it now and don't really have an issue with it).

Plus you can turn it off you want a regular mirror. I'm glad Chevy added it.

Looks promising. What’s not promising is that GM answered a question no one asked. The question is where are the front cameras? Or is ripped front ends part of the profits pitch. Let people rip their crap and have to buy parts from us.

Hopefully it will be the one from the CT6 and not the one used in the 5th Gen Camaro.
Also, regarding retrofit, here is a link from a 5th Gen that did an OEM retrofit into their vehicle

Thanks for the replies everyone. This appears to solve one of the Camaro’s biggest criticisms. When combined with the side mirror traffic alerts it will greatly increase safety.

Now here's a suggestion, sell a kit that can be used on earlier ZL1 models.

We have this on a 2019 2SS. It's neat but I'm not sure when I'll use it. I'd be more interested in having a discretely installed camera somewhere along the front fascia and have this availability when slowly parking into a spot with a wall or tall curb in front of me.

I use it on the track, because it gives you a much broader view of what is behind u!
