5th gen center console storage space

This is an area which I really hope they address. Its nice to have one of those center consoles where you can open up the armrest area for extra storage space for things like maps, sunglasses, CDs, etc. My current 2006 RSX has zero storage capacity in the center console and no armrest, which is a my big beef with that car. I had a '99 Integra GSR several years ago that had the extra center console storage space and used it all the time. Will they have this in the 5th gen Camaro? Did they have it in the 4th gens? I know that some of the current GM sedans like the Impala have it.

they had it in 4th gens, in the 93-97 models it opened front to back, in the 98-02 models it opened from left to right.

if they dont have a center console, they need to make a decent glove box. (a lot of 3rd gens didnt have one)

There's okay amount of space in the 4thGen center console. There's a total of 4 cup holders. I sure hope they have some built in pop out cup holders on the 5th Gen. They should make them pop out only and nothing obvious to the eye. The center console better be there....I use mine daily. I hate the 4th Gen glovebox...the thing is small enough as it is. Then, you go to open it and anything you have in there falls right out..............

That's the thing that always worries me about car design...

You know that car went through extensive testing. So, everyone who sat down and opened the glove box just to have everything fall out thought to themselves, "Nah, our consumers aren't going to mind picking up a few papers from the passenger seat floor once in a while. The thing's so small anyway, it's not like there'll be much in there to pick up."

I'm not sure which I would prefer: that they didn't test it at all, or that they just didn't care.

My Aveo :::grumblehatethiscargrumble::: doesn't have a center storage console OR an armrest of any kind.

I never knew just how much I'd miss an armrest until I started driving this car. (Newer Aveo's have armrests, just not the 04/05's I believe.)

Isn't that the truth?
My Cobalt doesn't have one either...little consolation stems from the fact that I also had to switch from stalk shifter to floor shifter, so I've already gotten used to resting my hand on the shifter.

Yeah, "mine's" got armrests that fold up out of the way. I find that it tends to get in the way of my shifting, so I just leave it in the up position anyway.

In the 98-02's there are 2 for the rear, 1 in the center console up front and one that swings out of the bottom of the dash on the passenger side.

No idea about the 93-97 though.

Hey 1 is better than none. LOL I don't remember my '82 or '91 having any (I'm sure someone here can say if the 3rd Gens had any).

2 up front is all I care about. The rear isn't spacious enough for anyone to be drinking anyway. LOL

LOL Amen to that!! I always say if anybody can fit back there, they DESERVE a cupholder! Usually if I drink coffee on my way to class and I have a coke on my way home, I'll put my coffee mug in one of the cup holders in the back, so they really do come in handy.

I've also stored my tanning bed lotion back there! haha!

93-96s had just 1. and now that I think about it, the 97s was when they started swapping the dashs over to the LS1 style. but for the longest time, I didnt have one in my 94 (cus I ripped the interior out for less weight.) lol

My main/bigger concern is having a center console/armrest which is comfortable and placed in a good "relation" to the shifter.

I'm taller and usually have to move the seat back. I'd really like it if the shifter was in a comfortable position, so that I don't have to reach forward to shift :P That gets annoying.

As for an armrest, I wouldn't really use one. It would get in the way of shifting My pulsar doesn't have any cupholders, but I don't have issues, just hold it between my legs or by my hip next to my seatbelt clip.
