That's what they use to clear coat the carbon fiber, right? I wonder how much each ZR1 uses? I would guess that a gallon goes a long way since each one is more than half the price of one car.

Actually thats true, they use it to spray the carbon fiber so it doesnt breakdown in outdoor light. since the roof and the splitter are exposed carbon fiber.

A compound simply can't be worth that much...this isn't some nuclear compound I mean....they are doing something wrong if they can't find a cheaper protectant.

I don't believe it's the CLEARCOAT.
It's a UV additive they put INTO the clearcoat...otherwise $40k+ of the ZR1s cost is in the clearcoat...

it requires a very thin coat, so it makes it not so bad price wise

Prove it. There's just no way that GM would pay Ferrari prices for paint products. That's not only a waste of their performance money, but it is an expectation to which no customer should hold GM. While GM is a world-class company, it is also a well-run business—a well-run business running on good decisions about how to invest resources.

ok upon further research the additive is 60k/gal and when mixed it only costs around 8-5k/gal
