Muffler delete mpg + or -?
Yep! the title pretty much says it. I haven't see any threads specifying the gas mileage benefits of muffler deletes (doubt there is). I just recently got muffler deletes and I've noticed a slight decrease from 65 to 70mph. I run my car only on supreme and I grandma my car most of the time. Has anyone noticed any changes on the LS3? Thx!

back pressure is in the cats and res mufflers do nothing more than dampen sound
if you look on here you'll find a cut a way of a muffler and it is just a strait pipe with a hole in it heres thread www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57512 i didnt notice any loss in mpg other than constant reving to hear awsome

you get god MPG when you have good low end power.. i have heard multiple time on allot of forums, they feel a little loss in low end TQ, but gain high end.. my friend with a 5.0L mustang did a muffler delete and he is always talking about his MPG loss
do some research on it , or get some professional advice good luck |

it's because you get on it more to hear the better sound. I know you think you don't but trust me it happens to all of us.

I have a couple friends that did muffler delete on their cars and both complain about loss of mpg. I have also heard its due to the loss of back pressure.

I did the deletes and i have a bit better MPg. About 1 or 2 Mpg. u deff lose mpg's when u do the deletes because of all constant reving.
i also lost a minimal low end torque but gained a minimal high end torque along with rpm movement.

Anyhow, apart from the occasional 0-65 test on the on ramps I grandma it around town. I have found that the louder exhaust note makes me much more conscious of what RPM I am at and how hard (or easy) I am pushing the engine, making it easier to save some $$$ on gas IMO |

Did anyone buy their Camaro for the gas mileage? I did not.

I think you should just not post anything tech related, ever. For the record these cars don't have two stroke carbed weed wacker engines.
Overly-open exhausts can cause a loss of exhaust velocity which will hamper the vacuum scavenging effect of the exhaust pulses pulling/emptying spent cylinders, but you'd need something absurdly large like 4" true duals with 2.5" tube headers to even come remotely close to hampering yourself, and it is NEVER going to occur as far back as the mufflers. Backpressure? ALWAYS a bad thing, because it is nothing but a flow (hp) restriction. |
