Going from a Maggie'd SS to a ZL1. Was I expecting too much?

Okay, I decided to trade in my Bumblebee L99 Maggie car for a ZL1. now, I do realize the power difference between the two cars wasn't going to be huge, but I did think they would be slightly noticeable in the ZL1's favor due to it being rated at 585HP vs what I thought to be somewhere in the 530-ish range on my Bee.

quite honestly, my old Bee feels like it pulled stronger overall. I also take in to consideration looking at the ZL1's boost gauge which says it pegs around 8 to 9 lbs of boost. my Bee was set around 7 lbs. So now I'm thinking what the heck? why did my Bee pull harder than an almighty ZL1? I'm hoping it's because the ZL1 is still fresh out of the box and the engine hasn't been "exercised" enough yet. I do realize there is so much more to the ZL1 besides the power plant, but I guess my expectations might have been too high?

nonetheless, my old Bee is gone and there's no turning back. I just hope my new ZL1 "wakes up" as more time goes by.

The auto starts in second (assuming you have the auto). At least that's what I've read around here

That's correct, it's an auto tranny. I'm in a wheelchair so driving a stick car isn't an option.

the car just needs some power mods IMO to feel really "fast". simple and easy to do. all I have is CAI, TB, lower and the car pull night and day different. all of 3hrs labor.

It may be 100% perception but several others here agreed that as the 1500 mile breakin proceeded it seemed like the car really woke up.
so perception or reality I dont know.

The 530 you said you had in you old car - was that crank HP or at the wheels?

The reported 585hp in the ZL1 is crank hp and that's been translating to approx 480 at the wheels in the automatics on the few stock ones that have been dynoed

Just want to rule out that

Wouldn't it be fair to say a tranny and engine tune might help substantially?

No, personally the tranny is perfect just the way it is.

There is several hundred pounds weight difference between the SS and the ZL1. The car is actually much faster than it feels, due to weight and suspension. The car rides and feels the same whether your doing 30 or 130.

BTW ... Congrats on the new car !!!

7psi on a high compression 6.2 and an aftermarket tune would definitely feel quicker than a stock ZL1, plus the SS is about 250-300lbs lighter than the ZL1, yes im taking into consideration the blower adds weight but then you might have had a lighter exhaust/headers and so on.

Car might also get quicker with a little more miles. My M6 ZL1 put 500rwhp on a Dynojet with 35miles on the odometer.
