Hunting for a sub
So I just recently purchased my brand new 2013 2SS/RS and opted not to get the $1000 audio upgrade. Seemed WAY overpriced for what you get. After listening to my music for a few weeks, I definitely want some sort of subwoofer. I primarily listen to rock music and I'm 100% all about sound quality. Which leaves me to my question, what sub should I shop for? A lot of reading I've done, recommends W6s or W7s from JL Audio. Any other brands/models to consider for sound quality? Also, recommendations for an amp wouldn't hurt my feelings either. I don't want to shake the car next to me or anything, like I said, sound quality is all I'm after. I also want to add, price isn't a big deal if there's quality to be had. I just know I can get way more for my $1000 than what GM was offering. Thank you for reading.

I'm no audiophile, but I have a 10" shallow mount pioneer premiere, it was inexpensive but the bass is very tight. Not shaking the ground by any means but adds the needed bass. Just make sure you get the settings right on the amp for any sub and you really can't go wrong. Whole setup was under 500.

I have (had) two 12" type R Alpines in a ******** box. The voice coils are toast on both of them. Sometime soon, I plan on changing to a 12W7 in a stealth box to replace them. Should take care of it.

If you want sound quality, look up image dynamics subs. Some of the best around. Those or the arc black series as well.
For amps, it depends. If u want an amp just for the sub then just match it to what you need. If u want to replace the factory one as well, the jl audio 700/5, 600/4, and 600/6 should all fit in the factory location and be good candidates |

I will add that W6's are great for SQ as well - that's why I bought them. For amps, there are lots of great choices these days. You could go with an all-in-one 5-channel like the JL HD900/5, Alpine PDX-V9 - or you could do multiple amps. Best thing to do really is set a budget and build around it. For the near-ultimate SQ subs, check out Focal and Morel - they make some truly incredible subs in the SQ realm, but they are costly.

I have a set up of two 10inch JL Audio Subs and a JL amp. It sounds really good! They are some of the best subs out there and the whole set up was less than $500. Including the install and the box. Once you have a set up like this in your car you won't want to listen to music on other cars.
