Lightweight special???
Pardon if I'm ignorant to some special lightweight Camaro from the past (obviously never heard of it), but wondering what you'd guys think for a special edt. lightweight 5thgen??? I imagine this would be an initiative if they planned on entering the 5thgen in some sort of racing series?

i could see them doing some carbon fiber parts(hood, trunk) but i dont see a whole body being light weight. it would be pretty cool to say yeha my camaro is carbon fiber.

I don't expect them to. But you never know. I don't know what racing series it would compete in though, I would love to see a new Trans Am series but I've heard nothing of it happening.

If they did anything...it would be really neat to hear of an aluminum frame, carbon fiber, etc...maybe for that monster Camaro?

I doubt there will be anything in terms of a "lightweight" from the factory. Now, with all the aftermarket companies wanting to be involved, anything is possible.
As for racing, there has been "talk" of the NASCAR Busch series switching to Camaro's, Challenger's, and Mustang's. But that is purely speculation at this point. |

I think you're going to need to go to the aftermarket to save weight.
1LE cars from the 3rd gen came from the factory as AC, PW, PL, fog light and radio delete. They also had an aluminum driveshaft. There were also a few 1LE 4th gens. I'm not sure what the 4th gen package included or should I say excluded. 1st gen COPO cars were pretty much option delete packages as well. Nothing with the 2nd gens that I'm aware of. |

I thought that was pretty much confirmed, and the cars are anticipated to look similar to the production versions. BUT the cars in NASCAR are not built by automakers and then modified to race (anymore). Therefore it doesn't quite count in my books.

I'd love to see a Pony Car war in the Busch series, but he's right, NASCAR vehicles are not based on production cars at all. They just have a body kit that kinda sorta looks like a certain car.
So I suppose we can't expect any "so acid dipped the panels are nearly transparent" Trans Am editions? Too bad. |

If the Busch series chooses to run the "Pony cars", I hope they keep them closer to stock than the NEXTEL Cup cars are. The poor excuses for cars used in NEXTEL Cup is one of the reasons I've chosen NOT to renew my tickets to Charlotte, Talladega, and Daytona.

I just wonder what Toyota will use against the pony cars . . .

The tC? A while back they had that concept car that was supposed to be a modern day Supra with a hybrid powertrain, but that seems to be forgotten now.

OT: My guess is that Toyota will have to have an answer soon, or else they can enjoy declining market share with ever increasingly boring product that only serves the needs of your everday car shopper that doesn't give a crap about performance. All of Toyota's major competitors already have several performance cars on offer in their lineups.
