V6 Hurst and MPG

Last weekend I took a road trip to my dads house, 280 miles. While there we installed the hurst shifter. I drove normal, no crazy down shifting to pass anyone. So for the trip the average speed was 70mph and average mpg was 26.5 - It takes about 4 hours or so to get there. I thought the mpg might be a little higher, but I was happy with that.

Anyway that's my story and i'm stickin' to it!

What shift pattern does the knob have? V8 or V6?

Yeah, I have an Auto and don't even get that good milage. I had a 140 mile trip all interstate and got 25 MPG...but then again I did 78 the whole way.

Not complaining though, I've gone 300 miles and still have between half and 1/4 tank.

The knob is a V8 pattern. The drive home I drove a little faster, gas mileage was the same

I drove at 55 to 60 and the average mpg 30 -31 Then increased the speed to 80 and went to 24 -25.

How could a shifter affect your MPG?

Your mileage was about the same as mine was with my V6. 70mph was about 26.5mpg. It went up 1mpg for every 5mph I slowed down and down 1mpg for every 5mph I sped up.

The EPA highway rating of 29mpg is based on an average speed of 48mph for the highway loop cycle.

Did you mean while you were at your dad's house during your road trip you installed the hurst shifter and gave your recorded mpg's??.. HOPEFULLY you did not mean that the shifter had anything to do with gas mileage increase or decrease...

of course a piece of metal did not affect the mpg. i was simply stating that i took a road trip to see my dad and install the shifter. It was the first highway trip i took with the car and wanted to see what mpg i would average.

This is a good analysis.

If you call Hurst they will send you a V6 pattern knob, and you get to keep the V8 one. I gave it to my Dad as inspiration.
