There's as much friction between manual and automatic owners as there is between Camaro and Mustang owners. We should have Camaro5M and Camaro5A ... just kidding.

If you have a wife, get an auto. If not, get a manual

Man, if you're worried about people saying "oh, it's an auto" what are you going to be thinking when you kill the manual at the signal light with a bunch of people lined up behind you!

My advice... Get what you like and what you're most comfortable with and screw what anyone else thinks. If that means an automatic (so you can actually enjoy the car without it being a "learning experience") then so be it.

If possible, see if you can find a manual to drive before you order/buy. You may find out you hate it or love it. Either way it would be good to know before it's too late!

I'd divorce my husband if he brought home an auto Camaro.

These forums are great, its amazing how after researching and listening to others stories how you change your mind on certain things. I was actually going to order the camaro today, but after reading stories and looking at countless pictures I keep changing small options. I started off with an all blacked out camaro 1SS (non RS) Automatic. Now Im 100% sure Im getting a black 1SS/RS Manual w/ Cyber Grey stripe package......right now lol.

Let me do one better for you. If you like black get the 2SS with the io interior with orange stripes. Looks insane imo Also my take on manual vs stick. Basicly if you are daily driving this car in medium to heavy traffic, have bad knees like some of our older members or like to race on the track a lot that would be solid reasons imo. Other then that manual is the only way to fly. To give you an idea how strong i feel about this topic i drove 1400 km's to get the ride i wanted because it was stick. Local dealer had the exact car but was auto i passed cause it was auto.

I was just going to say the same thing, if she's good the stick just presents a challenge to her.

I waited two weeks for my dealer to find one for me, even though he had exactly what I wanted on the lot in Auto. Ultimately, buy what you like best but if we don't start buying more manuals, pretty soon they won't make them for us anymore.

Im gonna go with the manual transmission, my partner has offered to teach me how to drive stick (he has an 09 civic SI I think) so I'll have a few weeks practice with it.

Its more to me than just people asking "is it manual" I really cant see myself buying this car in anything other than manual.......Once I get used to it, I plan on putting on the hurst short throw shifter!

My 2 cents:
I ordered an automatic back in Oct 2008. Took delivery in June 2009. There were no Camaros when I ordered mine so I had nothing to compare.

Speed and sound were what was important to me. Had I known about AFM at the time I ordered it I would have gone with a manual. I love everything about the car except the sound.

I've replaced the stock exhaust with a cat-back exhaust (no resonator). Still the sound at idle is not where I want it to be.

So, this decision is all about personal preferences. I'd just say go drive both and make your decision based upon what's important to you (e.g. being able to eat while you drive, getting stuck in high-volume traffice everyday, aggressive sound at idle, etc.).

I"m thinking of ordering a second one and it will definitely be a manual.

DO NOT GO OUT & GET A MANUAL JUST BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE THINKS THE MANUAL IS SUPERIOR. IF YOU HAD FUN IN THE AUTO MUSTANG THEN YOU'LL HAVE MORE FUN IN THE CAMARO. GET WHATS BEST FOR YOU MAN.

thats the thing, I never really had FUN with the mustang. After driving for 20 minutes it just got boring. I wanted to get the mustang with manual transmission, but they had everything I wanted on the model, just with auto so I got that.

I think the manual is whats best for me.
