Actually, it's about cost. Canadian union workers are cheaper because healthcare is paid for by the government of Ontario (and the taxpayers of Canada). And Oshawa is so darn close to Detroit!

The guy who said its because the Oshawa plant is best available, I call bs. The billion dollar upgrade could have occurred at any plant in the US as well.

It shouldn't matter if its built by Canadians or Americans. The culture is the same. The love for cars is the same.

Its a North American Muscle Car!

Yeah, sure thing, untill it's your FU&King job that gets exported. The job that I was going to retire from is now in Costa Rica and the job that I got to replace it is now in China. It is our politicians that have sold us out. Read my prior post about cafe. That is straight out of a 1990 edition of Motortrend when they picked the Mercury Grand Marquis as "import of the year".

Told ya. It's unfortunate that jobs are getting outsourced and you're right, it is because of the politicians, the same ones that keep getting re elected year after year and it will never stop. It's unfortunate and it sucks, but thats the way it is, we just have to deal with it.

To correct an inaccuracy, Camaros were never built in Anaheim, CA. I'll believe Van Nuys, CA, (and Norwood, OH) but not Anaheim.

I am sorry, but this isn't 1990 anymore. Regardless of country of origin, Manufacturers need to meet EPA Mandated Fleet Averages for fuel economy. It doesn't have anything to do with being made in Canada, US or Mexico.

This is one of the reasons GM imports so many of their small cars from overseas. It helps even out their overall CAFE Rating averages.

Personally, I am glad I was able to purchase a very nice automobile manufactured by one of the Detroit Based companies. Actually, I own three vehicles - Impala, 300C and Camaro. All are wonderful and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh, Dragoneye. Try to sprinkle an ounce of the answer to the OPs question in here and it just gets burried. It's like no one read your post.

But to clarify, you can go to the 2010 JD Power results

http://businesscenter.jdpower.com/ne...spx?ID=2010099

You'll see that in North America the Toyota plant in Ontario (Lexus RX350), Canada is number 1, followed by the Ford Plant in Hermosillo, Mexico (Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan) with GMs Lansing Grand River Plant (Cadillac CTS and STS) ranked number 3. These rank fairly well when you compare them globally. So this refutes the "Mexico doesn't build good quality" theory.

Oshawa has traditionally battled back and forth with LGR for GMs top plant honors in JD Power. It is well recognized for the work the entire team does there and as a GM employee I can tell you I am quite proud of the work done on all of the products built there.

It's because Gm doesn't have to pay Health care to all there employes like they would in the States.

Oh, and as for health care, check me on this, but I believe GM pays the Canadien government for each worker employed to cover health care. The difference is that once that worker retires the burden is on the Canadien Government and GM no longer has to pay.

That is one of the biggest reasons for GMs financial woes and many of the product decisions made over the last 30 years. The profits from selling 50% of the vehicles in this country in 50s, 60s and early 70s (read that to be before the imports) could easily sustain the huge work force and increasing pay and benefits. But in time, the imports began to take market share and ultimately the obligation to pay retired workers pension and health care benefits became so large that it couldn't be managed. This is why the competition in Germany and Japan have had a huge advantage over GM, Ford and Chrysler. Their governments picked up that tab. And, yes, one could argue our government did nothing to keep a reasonably level playing field. GM was paying healthcare for over 1,000,000 employees, retirees and family members. The VEBA settlement in the bankruptcy now gets the healthcare burden for retirees out of GMs obligations and is a huge step in the return to profitability.

So the Camaro being built in Canada comes down to health care. Hmmmmmmmm. LOL

Because Canadians are not lazy and they would do a better job. Americans demand a break every 10 minutes. True story Eh! Lol
