I think we forget guys, these are care that have been touched and man handled by thousands of people. Most of the curious as to how the stripes are put on the car. So like everyone else, the natural thing to is to run their grubby little fingernails across them. Given enough times, you could make a dent in a piece of steel

Solution to this for my stripe package: Send it over to Body and get the whole car clear coated. Makes them look painted, while not being painted as well as protecting them.
I win. |

So you're going to PAINT over stickers? Sounds like a winner.

I wouldn't paint over the stripes because the paint will not stick to the smooth surface. I'm sure it will start peeling withing a few months time. I do install vinyl lettering and graphics on vehicles and most vinyl has a life of 5/7 years exposed to the weather. Vinyl will last a life time if installed correctly.(well a long time anyway)

I'm getting no stripes.
I think my hubby will get the stripes if he orders one He has the 30th anniversary SS with Orange stripes, and they are fine. They were also stickers. |

Sad but true, but don't bet on it being a child... Some adults do some foolish, thoughtless things at car shows. Sadly, it goes with the territory and can be expected in some cities more than others... and no, I won't say which ones. Most folks everywhere are decent and love cars and would never think to abuse one. Good people don't deserve to be associated with vandals just because they live in the same area.

Stipes
GM and the my dealer told me the stripes are put on after the finish clear coat, not under and that means there will be an edge. Some of the stripes are put on at the dealer.

Stripes
I know that some of the stripes are paint. When I ordered my car they called the paint shop. My stripes are black and they are paint

Forego the vinyl stripes from GM and take it to a decent body shop. To the professionals, painting stripes are no big deal and you can get the stripe design you want. You'd be surprised at how relatively inexpensive it would be too. Plus they'll be nice and glossy like Bumblebee's, not like something you stuck on the car yourself. You won't have to worry about wax build up around the edges of the darker stripes or the tendancy to peel and fade. I say scratch the GM stripes and go aftermarket paint. You may even save money too and get a much better quality finish to it. Did they put vinyl stripes on the early generations, I don't think so. Anyway, JMVHO.
