It is in my favor to keep the money I have in my pocket and have monthly payments where I can pay it off before the interest builds anything worth the loaners time/effort.

I don't want to rub anyone the wrong way, but i've always lived my life with the notion that if you work hard, you should also reward yourself. I'm 31 years old, married, 4 kids, and have a successful business. I own my home, a 2007 vette, 2007 escalade, 2007 sts, and a 2010 camaro 2SS....with money saved for retirement. Enjoy life and work hard...and you won't have to worry about your payments. I paid for the camaro in cash 3 weeks ago and lovin it. I feel like i'm sixteen again. And for the guy making $14/per hour. Don't use that money on the car....use it to start your own business...and later in life...you won't worry about the money.

[QUOTE=Forrest;785485]Not true, I could have paid for mine in cash, but I need something to help me with my credit score because I'm only 17. So, perfect way IMHO.
Its all different for every person. Someone making $2000 a month, yeah, 795 would seem rediculous. But lets say he's making 10,000 a month, and just blowing the rest on partying and saving for retirement.....795 is 'just a drop in the bucket' so to speak. No offense, but this is where a 17 year old doesn't get it. If I choose not to pay cash for my car, then my money is costing me 4, 5, or 6%. How does that make sense? You're nuts to finance your car to build a FICO, there are other ways to do that. If you really have the cash, cut the check.

Also, if you have the cash sitting around and are able to pay the car off, do so. You're wasting a TON of money on interest. I have student loans that I've been paying on since I've graduated. I'm paying it all way ahead of schedule to get out of all the interest that will accumulate over the month/years. Interest is wasted money.

Everybody has to make their own determinations as far as what they want out of life and how they manage their finances. You can't make blanket statements that apply to everyone. I'm going to finance for 6 years to the tune of about $650/month. I'm going to do it because its something that is very important to me that I've wanted for a long time. You say thats crazy but knowing what my own financial position is I know its not. I'm an engineer who's fairly well along in my career and my wife is an MD, still in residency. In 3 years she'll be out of residency and we'll be pulling in nearly $20k a month before taxes, at which point I'm going to pay my car off in <6 months months. Things don't sound so crazy now do they?

$610.00 for 60 months 4.85% 10,000.00 down. For those concerned about not paying cash and getting a loan, I am 40 years old my husband owns his own bussiness I have worked at a major university for 16 years we own our own home have NO credit card debt and only owe his truck payment (bussiness deduction) and now my car. Our daughter can go to my University or any other that does tuition exchange in the world for free so no worries I think I can handle it.

This is getting kind of rediculous. For all of you out there trying to tell everyone else how they should do things, forget yall. What is right for you may not be right for someone else. What in your opinion is the right thing to do, may not be the right thing for someone else. OK, im 24 an my wife is 23. We pull in around 60K/year. Both of our cars are paid for (05 mustang and 06 canyon), school loans are paid, no credit cards, or any other loan payments. All we have is a house note. No, I cant write a check for the car, but a car note isnt a burden for me. I manage my money very well, and dont need someone else telling me what I should or shouldnt buy because I have to finance it.
