Vmax Ice-olater soon! What size bolts?
Hey guys, so I finally pulled the trigger on a Vmax TB and Ice-olater. Thanks Phil @ Tampa Tuning!
I did a search but my questions are only half answered. I've already ordered a second OEM gasket to put on instead of RTV, and I'm curious what size bolts I should get. I've included a diagram, if someone with adequate knowledge could mark it up with the correct size bolts required I'd be very appreciative. It's my understanding that the 4 middle should be about 150mm but I still don't know about the one in front and the one in the rear. What are the stock sizes? I can't take it apart for a while due to work, but I'd like to have all 6 bolts ready to go before I start the install. Thanks!

I don't think you need longer bolts for those two. but they are needed. I believe. let me see if I can find the instructions...

SOME folks have gotten away without using longer bolts at all, but I don't think it's a good idea; and it's possible there were bolt length changes over the life of the LLT builds, so it worked for some but not others. Anyway, check out Tampa Tuning's recent threads about the install.
You should get some bolts for the four longest ones that are 10mm longer than stock (not sure of stock length - is it 140mm???). For the other two, I swapped some of the OEM bolts around like this:

When I installed an ice-olator I used two gaskets and the stock bolts worked fine...

I used OEM gasket, red RTV, only torque to half what was recommened. retorqued again when the engine was warmed up. Again you should never go too tight on aluminum

A lot of people seem to have done ok with stock bolts... but then there are quite a few people who have stripped them or broken bolts off using the stock. I'm very mechanically inclined so torque specs aren't my concern so much as I'd feel a lot better knowing I had a sufficient amount of thread in the hole. I like the idea of swapping around some of those bolts, that seems to be my solution for now... except my OCD is going to require 6 bolts of appropriate size with the same heads

In the below thread, We just wanted to keep it simple and found the PTV silicon and stock bolts worked great. The car in the write up is a daily driver and she runs great without an issue.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314373 Once you tighten down the manifold from the top, its not going anywhere. Have fun with the install and the fat torque and horsepower in the middle of the RPM band Phil |
