Wrong. Law enforcement around here has really been cracking down on speeding. When they're out-and-about checking people's speeds, my 9500IX picks 'em up every time, LONG before I actually see or drive past them.

Hint: A short, quick burst of Ka lights up the detector, time to check your speed...

Actually it was at track with a 3/4 mile straight away, so it was legal.

Yeah I wasn't aware of what it was, he told me that I was just about a few miles outside the 70 mph and it had gone down to 60 within the last few miles. Unfortunately I think I was too focused on the road and never saw the sign. My buddy who was in the passenger seat told me he never saw the 60mph speed limit.

I agree that "not knowing what the speed limit was" is not a legit excuse. Being that it was ~12:30 at night and I had already been driving on unfamilar roads for two hours out in the middle of no where, my eyes were glued to the street. Hardly having a moon and being the only car on the road there was hardly any light at all, I was more worried about making sure animals weren't on the road then looking down at my speed. Not to mention I had my speed warning set at 75mph so I know I was't going extremely fast.

And Baylor, it shows you the current speed limit of the road you are on!

yes, on both counts! But if you figure the cost of a good radar detector and the cost of a good GPS... well, you are close the $649...

Be careful with the GPS because my girlfriend got tagged around a corner (speed trap much?) goin 55 which apparently changed right then to 30... yet no posted sign indicating a reduction in speed and the GPS even didn't say the speed had changed... well she fought it and lost cuz the road had driveway on it and so it was considered a residental area... Tillamook, OR. makes A LOT of money of people passing through. If you feel it was unfair or that the police officer was just trying to make a quota (they all HAVE to) then indeed fight it.

Well it was the 31st of the month so I wouldn't be surprised.. But I admit I was speeding, I cannot deny the radar.

I was going 74 in what apparently was a 60. I've never fought a speeding ticket before so I don't really know if I should do it or not. All I know is that if the cop doesn't show up they'll waive the ticket, but I don't know what else there is that goes into fighting a ticket. If anyone has advice please let me know.
If you get a lawyer they'll try and get you out on a technicality and between that and no show cops you usually win ... but worst case scenario you take defensive driving or deferred ajudication.

I'm working on fighting a ticket 2 years old, lol.

I feel you.

When I was driving home from getting my GT500 in AK (live in HTown, TX) I was driving back at 2-3am and my eyes were F'in glued to the road like none other. I was on back roads highways w/o street lights and deer darting across the road. No F'ing way I was paying attention to speed limit signs.

Was I speeding? Possibly, no idea... but my attention was where it needed to be to mitigate the biggest risk.

You will be fine - if you live in Texas

You should be okay.
Just go to the exact court that the ticket says to go to.

When you arrive they will offer you options so you don't get the ticket.
If they don't offer you options ASK THEM if they have these options below:

Typically, if you have not taken defensive driving within the past 12 months, they will offer you this option. It's not that expensive. This process includes that you can't get any tickets for 90 days after you agree to take defensive driving. It's pretty simple.

Option 2: Usually most courts offer something called Deferred prosecution. This option is usually expensive, but you STILL won't get the ticket and you won't get any points on your license. You usually pay them a fat fee, then later on, you have to show you didn't get any tickets for the next 90 or 120 days.

Just go to the court and ask if either of these are available. Also since you didn't go more than 15 miles over the speed limit, chances are you have both of these options.

Don't just mail in the payment for that ticket. Go to the court as soon as you can get there and just go to clerk/counter where you pay tickets. Unless you already have used up these options, they likely are readily available.

Good luck.

For everyone criticizing the OP, get a life. He already said he screwed up, he just wanted to see if anyone knew what the options were. Get off your high horse. Like none of y'all that are criticizing him have never been ticketed before.

And every time one of these threads pops up, some idiot mentions quotas. Get a clue. Quotas have basically been banned by just about every department out there. So grow up and stop acting like every cop out there has a stick up his @$$.

To the OP:

You can usually go on the city's website and get a list of options for speeding ticket dismissal options. Typically deferred disposition (probation) or a defensive driving class will get the ticket wiped from your driving record.
