My math says the ZL1 wins at the strip while the Boss 302 wins at the track.
A few things you guys may not know about the 5.0. Standard 5.0: 1) Already set up to add a drop in oil cooler. 2)Designed for maxiumum flow of water/radiator coolant and oil through the engine, already having factored in up to 1G lateral forces for extended amounts of time. 3) piston oil jets which both warm up the pistons faster and keep them cooler better. 4) 8qt oil sump helps keep oil cool Boss 302: Forged internals. Fully adjustable suspension Track key modifies tune for racing Quad exhaust with take outs Drop in that oil cooler and swap those mediocre factory brembos for a set of slotted and cross drilled 14inch 4 piston brakes and its game over for getting around a race track....and doing it for 100s of laps the Boss just wins hands down. |

That cam alone isn't going to be enough, you should go all out and do the heads as well and keep those I/E 5.0's in your rear view. Or just keep the engine sealed up and go forced induction in your driveway. But if I could do a cam swap as chap and easy as you can then I'd do it just for the wicked idle of a cammed LS3. Start planning now because a lot of Boss intakes just hit the streets and gave 5.0L owners an extra 60whp above 7k, which right were it needs it to be successful.

I think I am going to the "mustang" forum to read some stuff about the ZL-1. I think active dialog is great but pretty funny all this "stang" stuff
