well the 7.0L is almost a big block, its a 427 cu which has historically been made with a big block but through the magic of modern materials we can now put the same displacement into a small block (and actually last more than a few miles). It would be amazing if they were able to get the 454 into a production small block. wonder if it is even possible . . . the old 454 had a bore of 4.25" and the spacing on the LS series is what, 4.4"? that leaves only 0.15" of material between cylinders . . . thats half what is currently on the LS7. So i doubt it could happen unless the block itself gets a bit bigger.

I'm sure at some point, just to prove everyone wrong, or right...they'll do something like that...It'll be amazing to see though...
"What are you running?" "454." "oooh, Big Block, huh? Impressive." "Nope, small block." |

First of all, I'd like to say good day to all of the Camaro Enthusiasts out there. I've been reading everyone's posts on here for a long time and finally decided to join. Primarily because of the question asked below, and because Dragoneye called us onlookers out a little while ago. (didn't know you were watchin' LOL!!)

Yes it is possible and it has been done already. Not production, but Chevy has built a 454 cid and it is in Reggy Jackson's Red '69 Camaro. Check it out for yourself. http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Ra...ie_jackson.jsp |

I never knew. 600 hp 454 small block. Wow. and the LSX is capable of over 500 cu? I extremely doubt that this would ever make its way into production cars, even in a special limmited edition. But still, the thought . . .

Bob Lutz say's that GM would have to offer a v6 for just over $20k and an affordable v8 under $30k. Now I doubt very seriously that this "affordable v8" will be able to handle Dodge's SRT-8 or Ford's GT500 engines, there's has to be one more v8 that will address this very real issue...
I scanned this from one of my mag's. |

Yes, there does have to be.
Currently, this is my thinking: To hell with the V6's for this conversation, right now they don't matter. Come 2009, I think we'll see 1 V8, I'm betting on the LS3(or Gen V equivilant). Don't underestimate this engine, though...It's an LS-series; I'm sure that with very minor modifications, it could eclipse a GT500. But not very long afterwards, we get the monster: that is, the beast that everybody wants to compete with the GT500. It'll be out of the 20-30k price range, probably up towards 38-40k, and it won't be the LS7. More than likely, rather, a hi-po GenV, or the "LS9"(s/c LS3). I wouldn't be surprised to see Carbon-fiber body panels on the monster-model either. |

That's right... and if it's that versatile then I can see a toned down vr. for the Z28 (436+ hp) and a nicely modded LS3 for the SS (500+ hp). That chick did say, "there will be 2 small block engines," perhaps she was eluding to the LS3, which is a small block... ahh I gotcha, honey
I know this is the LS7, but it's the same kind of hp the LS3 can make. cool vid anyway.. |

...GT500 had to try, try, try, try again. He just kept fallin back and had to keep trying like his GT500 was going to miraculously gain an additional 20hp to overtake the vette. On the the other hand....That GT was quite nice. Too bad it takes that Fords TT's to put down a Vette!!!:p |

Please... that gt already has a 48 hp advantage as it is!!! If he can't win even when things are in his favor-- I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe that gt ought to lose some weight.
Either way, the LS3 in this new Camaro should really make the Ford guys break out with a cold sweat. Here's some facts on The All New LS3 Engine |
