Which radar detector??

I've been trying to find a radar detector that I can install in my car to keep the interior clean of all those cables running everywhere but can't figure out what would be the best one to get. I'd like to spend as little as possible, but I still want the piece of mind knowing I didn't waste my money.

I've been considering the Beltronics STI-R vs Passport 9500ci Any thoughts? I like the fact they both have the GPS function for finding speed traps.

I travel a lot and being in the military I think radar detectors are not allowed on base, if I was to take the V-1 off after hardwiring it to the mirror like you have Clutch, is it going to leave an ugly mess?

To those who use a V-1. Why do you like it so much? I'm leaning towards the V-1 but still undecided. I mostly drive hwy and need the most warning possible. What are the pluses/minuses? I'd appreciate any input.

I have used Beltronics for ever awesome products the detection is the best. I currently have a RX65, prior to that I used the Vector 990. I'm thinking about getting the GX65.

I've got a Passport 9500ci, a 9500xi and an older V1. All have the same sensitivity but the V1 falses frequently. The 9500ci makes a real clean installation but make sure you have a good installer or you are willing to spend some time on it. The 9500xi or V1 can be installed with the remote unit to clean up the install quiet a bit.

SS drifter, I've come to the conclusion I'm going to hold off on the 9500 ci for a minute...wanna do some other stuff first...What would you reccommend the 9500xi or the V1?

With the V-1 you get situation awareness and what that means is it shows you where the threats are with arrows. If it detects something in the front it will point that way, if it picks it up from the rear then you know you've got something coming up from behind or you may have passed it already.

It is very sensitive and picks up threats way down the road giving you plenty of time. It also shows bogey count in case there is more than one threat.

There are other great detectors out there I know I've used them but I will stick with my V-1 for now and probably not get caught.

Just my preference and $0.02.

My installation can be reversed and it will look stock again.

BTW on the cat-back I got the Solo Mach XL for my L99.

Sounds awesome and it is a great quality system for the money.

I'd go with the 9500xi without a doubt. Let put it this way, I bought the xi on Vacation when I the V1 was having wiring issues. I liked it enough to lay out the 1600 hundred or so for the ci because I got tiried of hiding the xi. Is the difference between the ci and xi worth a grand? NO., But it is very convenient and it makes for a very clean install.

The V1 is a great unit. I've had mine for a maybe five years and it saved my backside many times. I send it in for recal and updates every year or two and the service is great. The problem is that the design is mostly unchanged for several years. The directional indication is a great feature but all the false alerts make you so spooky that you may as well just drive the speed limit. The V1 is top of of the line priced but it needs a few modern touches to remain competitive.
