V6 LS1 mileage surprise.

Hi everyone! I got my black base 1LS on Wednesday and drove up into the mountains with it on Saturday. I live in Deming NM and the elevation is 4400 feet, and I drove to Springerville AZ via the 180 state road and ended at an elevation around 8400-8600 feet. Fastest speeds of 70 mph, a good amount of 40 mph through small towns and/or tight mountain curves, never under the speed limit. The mileage was 203mi and the gas gauge was just under 3/4 full so I thought it was very innacurate - and the mpg gauge in the car said 25.3. I filled the car before we left, then again as I got to the McDonald's in Springerville and did the math: 203/6.6 and got 30.75 mpg! I gave all the specs so you all know the conditions, but I am shocked how good it was! My 2003 Subaru wrx barely got 20mpg on the same route, and needed supreme gas to boot! We love this car.

That's great man! It's amazing what the Chevy engineers have been able to do with this car.

You have a 1LS... An LS1 is an engine.

People can say oh whatever you knew what I meant but seriously, learn the terms. I read the thread title and at first was like what the heck is a V6 LS1... then it hit me.

The folks that say SS2 drive me nuts too.

Awesome, from Northern AZ to a ski trip in Colorado I got a total of 25mpg on my SS. This includes mountain passes and constantly 5mph above speed limits (some may call that slow, but the idea was not to waste too much gas). My WRX got around 29 average on similar trips and didn't go down too much with city driving, as long as you were off boost. I definitely believe your numbers, with any resonable kind of driving they are what you should be able to get. I've been able to squeak out 28mpg with the SS, but it's not practical/fun to drive it like that, so more like 22mpg is a normal average unless I do a big trip where my mpg is better.

Yeah staying off the boost is the key with the WRX, obviously I never got it.

I had the boost guage, if I could hold it at "zero" while accelerating, I returned pretty good numbers. 30mpg wasn't too hard to do. I had plenty of fast times in that car too, the initial acceleration is still better than my SS.

Hey guys/gals, is there anyway to edit the title of this thread to change it to 1LS? Karen wrote this(This is David now) and was really upset by the one post and wanted it corrected. Thanks, and we share the log on, so that's why there are two of us posting.

When I keep my 2LT/RS V6 between about 52-65, then I average 32 mph....you really can get some awesome mileage out of this car!

Congrats on your 1LS purchase. I'm jealous at your MPGs! I have a 30 mile drive each way to work that is 99% freeway and the best I've been able to muster is 21.3mpg according to the DIC... kinda bummed, but I'm usually going between 60-80mph
