My guess... SS = gone. V6 will stay.

edit: not immediately but probably after the model year.

Let me say this. The 60 day restructuring plan will NOT have any effect on cars currently being produced.

The plan addresses a return to viability, not current production.

That said, it may wind up shortening the life-cycle of the current generation of Camaro but, we won't see or truly know that for a while yet.

Should not stop it. If the car sells the line will stay open for many years.

It might force a raise the SS price and make it much more a rare model.

Camaro isn't going to be touched in the short term.

Of course the LS3/L99 will be dropped in favor of the DI tech being tottled around in the R&D dept. They will see the mileage and Performance numbers and say "DO IT.. why didn't you do this before? *whitehousefacepalm.jpg*" I won't even count out them throwing these engines into the Trucks to boost CAFE numbers. Then use these in CAFE as an example of "See this is how you do it..now do it."

Then we'll be spanking mustangs and the revenue will be pouring in.

This will not effect the production of the Camaro guys.At the very worst GM would have to file for bankruptcy but that would be about it. The car will still be made and the only reason why it wouldn't be made is if GM says they are closing there doors for good. I personally think GM will survive and I hate to say this but with them taking the Camaro off the line back in 02 which I was devestated over and now with the resurgenace of our Camaro this might be what helps pull GM out of the dumps and back in the Detroit spot light. I believe everything happens for a reason, rest assurd my friends GM will be fine our Camaro will be fine.

If GM is forced into bankruptcy, isn't that a huge hit on their suppliers? Then do the suppliers fail? Then how does GM get the parts to build their cars?

Just a thought on the consequences of bankruptcy. I think they need to find a way to keep their heads above water.

And if they have to get concessions from employees, as I saw mention of on one of the news channels, are they at risk of a strike? Asking empoyees for further consessions without the promise of makeup payments later would be a bad move. And I will be real pissed if they went on strike before my car got shipped! Not saying any of this will happen, just some scary thoughts.

It seems that we cannot control ourselves from posting political threads on this forum. WTF

The Camaro will be renamed the Ford Escape Hybrid. That's probably it.

I saw this at MSNBC.com.

Quote:
For the auto industry, the basic outlines of the restructuring that the Obama administration sees are becoming clear. For Chrysler, the hoped-for future is that Fiat takes it over and turns it into maker of European-style small cars for the American market. For GM, on the other hand, it will be — if not immediately then next year or the year after — goodbye to the passenger-car market. Not just no more Pontiac, but no more Buick and no more Cadillac and no more Chevy cars. That's what restructuring means: picking the winners and cutting the losers loose.
It's not set in stone by any means, but I don't like the topic even being brought up. :( Notice how Ford is never mentioned in any kind of restructuring stories. I guess because they are in better shape and did not take any gov't money. I hope we don't end up like we did when F-body cars were stopped leaving the Mustang as the only muscle-type car.

I call on the validity of MSNBC article.

I read it. It's just an editorial. Author is speculating on what the restructuring might entail, just like the rest of us.
