8+ hours for oil pan

Yep! PacMan is sitting at the dealership awaiting some parts to fix a leaky oil pan gasket. So get this....

1. It's not even a gasket, it's GMS, or silicone for short.
2. Bumper cover has to come off.
3. All serpentine parts have to come off.
4. Intake, intake manifold (iirc) has to come off.
5. Front engine cover has to come off.
6. Engine cradle, front subframe, has to be loosened, special engine support used.

Yep. All that work for a silicone gasket that is leaking. On an oil pan. Lmao, I couldn't believe it, neither could the techs/service managers. My car will be the guinea pig, hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow evening.

Lol, for an oil pan gasket. WTF?

Ow. That hurts. Nothing but lets make it nearly impossible to do what should be a fairly straightforward and simple project.

DANG! I guess I'm going have to rethink the idea of tapping my oil pan for an oil return. I have not looked at it closely, but I would have never guess it would take that much to get it out.

Haha Yeah, I had thought about replacing my my timing chain with a katech C5-r chain when i had the cam out and the heads off... once i figured out the how hard it was to get the oil pickup tube off the oil pump because of the crazy ass location they put the bolt in (OIL PAN), i was like F THAT I'm not risking dropping the nut in the oil pan and having lower the entire sub-frame of the car just to get it out of the oil pan... IMHO what a stupid flipping design there... I hope everything goes well for you, I'm finishing up putting mine back together this weekend.

That's almost the same as removing the windshield to replace the heater core.
Whats with GM?

At the rear, by tranny bell housing. Tech was hoping it was a rear main, lol, it would have been easier to replace.

Had mine on the rack last night so I took a look at it. If GM had just bolted the cross member on it would have been a piece of cack. I think you might be able to do it by supporting the motor mount on the passanger side and dropping the rear half of the front suspension, that you never really know until you try. Let us know how it came out.
