Inside Door Trim Lighting
Took the car out for a spin tonight, and noticed that the lit strip along the door panel is very very dim. In my SS I remember the blue light was very bright. In my ZL1 though its barely noticeable. Very very dim, still in that light blue color. I tried dimming the instrument lights and then the door strips faded completely. So then I tried turning the instrument lighting as bright as possible, but that strip along the door panel still stayed very dim. I just seem to remember my SS was way brighter. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed? Thanks

Yes I also noticed, from what I've read there is tape or something behind the panel making it dimmer and is also why it doesn't go all the way up to the dash as well.

I haven't taken mine apart to fix it yet, I'll eventually change it to red though.

A lot dimmer than my SS for sure. It seems when I park the ZL1 at night, and open the door the strip gets much brighter ... Kinda weird

I had my ZL1 for about a month before I even knew it was there. Very dim.

Okay, wasn't sure if mine was malfunctioning or what. Last nite I just noticed that it seemed really dim. So I guess it's just the way it is, and sure I like that its subtle, but I'd like to be able to make it just a tad brighter and have it go all the way around from end to end. Someone wrote it has some sort of backing blocking the light, so the question is has anyone tried peeling off the backing? In my opinion the SS looked better, and by dimming the instrument cluster I could also dim the door trim lighting. Thanks to all those who commented.

From what the guys over in the DIY sub forum think it is because of the black paint that the panels are painted and that there was most likely some over spray into the light pipe channel. All it takes is a very very light sanding, after removing the light pipe, with automotive sand paper (like 2500 [yes, 2500] grit sand paper) and it should improve the brightness.
Other guys haven't bothered with sanding and added a secondary LED at the bottom of the light pipe to increase the brightness. Both mods are quick and very easy. Search "ZL1 ABL" and you'll find a topic with that exact title and you'll see some pictures.
