That feeling of selling your first project car

I'm hopefully selling my first project car in two days to a very interested buyer. I had it since 16 yrs. old til now (mid-20s). It's a 1989 Mazda RX7 Turbo II with tons of money sunk into performance parts.

Honestly, it easily outperforms my V6 Camaro in any category, 1/4 mile (low 13s, a friend of mine who drives better got one high 12 out of it on a flawless run), road course, autocross, etc. But high performance rotaries are kinda pricey to maintain and I'm getting married next month. It got hit last year (while it was parked) and while I had money to repair the damage, it's still in matte black primer. It will need a clutch soon, and a FMIC to support the turbo better. But good lord we had some seriously good times and lots of memories. And I'm still getting 5k back out of it.

So how about any of you guys?
Selling your first project is always bittersweet, isn't it?

Edit: posting this picture of all three of my cars before someone says "This thread is worthless without pics" lol.

The only nice thing about not owning my 67 Camaro anymore is to not have the burden of the car's endless to-do list on my shoulders,..................... and worrying about it when parked,.......................... and worrying if someone hits me their insurance will total it out for nothing. Everything else sux :(

but the more I think about it this list could get longer. Nice RX7, do you have anymore pics....it looks tough. Treat yourself buy your clean silver Camaro some new rims/tires with some of the money.

When I sold my FFR (blue car in my sig), the new owner let me drive it from my garage to his garage 40 miles away. It was the best drive ever. I only miss it when I see cars like it. I will build one again next year. Silver with black stripes this time to hunt GT500s, ZR1s, ZL1s, and GT-Rs. Of all the cars I have had, the one I miss the most is my restored 1973 VW Beetle which I sold last year.

There's just something about building/restoring those older cars that makes a car unforgettable

My first restoration I did with my dad was a 1969 SS/RS 396 Camaro. He bought the car for me when I was 14. It took us approx 6 years to finish. I sold it when I was 22 to buy a house etc. I am 36 now and still kick myself everyday in the ass for selling it!!!!! My wife keeps telling me to get another one. Someday when the right opportunity presents itself I will.

You had better find THE car you did with your dad...you will always wonder where it is if you don't.

Agreed. One day your dad will not be with you anymore. I lost my father 22 years ago, and you will long for those memories. We restored a boat and it is gone.

If you can find it and buy it again, you should.

I am working on a 1985 300ZX right now with my 16 year old son. It will be his first car. It was the first car my wife ever bought, and I have told him flat out he never will need to sell it. It will be a life long memory. This both his and my first project car and after two years we are nearing the end. Paint and Interior is all that is left. We are already looking for the next!

Until I purchased my first Camaro (RedRum now V1), I never was into "project cars"

And now I'm strongly considering selling Veteran1 as garage space will has got tight at my house with all my GM vehicles.

And with the ZL1 around the corner and the another exotic coming soon, I'm ready to sell.

my father is who helped me when I was 16 with my RX7 and I love the car to death. It just was never the same after an old lady rammed a cadillac into the passenger side :(

but since my father isn't in the best of shape to do very much work with his '11 IBM 1SS Camaro (he has bad discs in his back), I help him out with it. We are planning on doing his exhaust soon. So now its kind of like role reversal...
