Why are we paying MSRP?

Hey guys, I've been thinking about this for about a month now. Why MSRP? This is a buyers market right now, and since the fluctuating economy is on our side (automotive), then why?
I recently went to a ford dealer to ask about the 08 V8 mustang, and they offered the car @ 6k under msrp... so again, why MRSP for the Camaro??

We are paying msrp plus thief fee because we want the first wave of cars produced.

Once the first 10K cars are built there will be excess inventory and that's when you will see the deep discounts.

I have to disagree with your comment. I am sure that there will be dealarships which will charge MSRP + for their remaining allotment of Camaros for a short while. I think this will especially be true once you start to see a few on the street; however that won't last forever. Once the initial wave subsides the dealers will be forced to start negociating with the rest of the customer base who would like a Camaro in the first year or two, but refuses to pay MSRP or more. Just look at the Dodge Challanger. For a while they left the lots for MSRP + $5,000 to $10,000. I am sure you could get a good deal now though.

There are some dealers around the D.C. area now selling the Challenger for a few hundred under MSRP, but it's still costlier than a comparably equipped SS.
There should be a greater number of Camaro V6s on lots and they will come down first, but it could be quite awhile until you'll find an SS for under MSRP, perhaps well into 2010....just a guess, and of course depending on the dealership/geographic area.

As for paying MSRP, the Camaro is a very "hot item" as its been a HUGE success on the car show circuit, and as a result, people are (figuratively speaking) lining up to buy one.

As for dealer mark-ups,() there is NO reason to pay that! If you do a little shopping, you CAN find dealers who aren't charging a mark-up.

If I were buying a new Camaro right now, I'd shop for the best price, and if I had to pay MSRP, I'm not complaining.

As for the Mustang; its been around for a while now, there are ALOT sitting on dealer lots, and its not the "new kid on the block", re; Challenger and Camaro, so dealers are trying to do what they can to move them.

I'd consider checking out posts and threads by some members who work at dealerships on here, like CamaroScotty among a few others (I'm sorry to everyone else - I remember him to be among the first, from what I can remember and mean no disrespect to anyone else ). You should consider talking to any of them about pricing and such. Because they're active here, they're probably even more knowledgable than those that don't frequent sites like ours.

Don't forget the bond you guys will all from while sifting through the early production maintenance problems...that's got to be worth something.

So they can be the 1st to roll up Spring break at Port Aransas and have the chix
droolling all over the car and a full box of beads, bottle of Jack and a long night ahead. (no driving after the Jack is opened that's for later).

Anyway MSRP for this car is much more fair than some of the other models. Of course if inventory builds up THEN you can deal below. Otherwise if they are moving then MSRP or any specials they come up are par for course.

All one has to do is look at the Z06 and ZR1. Initially sold for THOUSANDS over MSRP and in the case if the ZR1 someimes as high as $20K over MSRP.

Guess what, both can be had for UNDER MSRP. So being able to buy a 2010 Camaro for MSRP is far better than paying OVER. No Chevy is worth MORE than MSRP.

Agreed. It was a little tough to swallow MSRP though. I have NEVER paid anywhere close to MSRP for a vehicle; in fact, I got almost $8k off the GTO sticker price when I bought (Smartbuy) it in September '04. I just gave it back on Wednesday. Bought an 02 Impala for a winter car in the meantime while I wait on the Camaro delivery. I'll just keep the Impala since I'll need a winter ride next November anyways and that way if family comes into town to visit during the "warm" months, I'll have a car they can borrow.

I assume you've ordered a Camaro. What did you get, and where, just out of curiosity?

I am going to the Chevy dealer today to revise my order. I am still undecided on whether to buy it now or wait one more year. I am only 22y with a recently obtained ME degree so therefore I am not in a hurry. What are your thoughts?
MSRP Camaro or 2008-2009 for $6K under MSRP (the V8!)?

Weel, if you can get a suppliers or employee discount then I'd say get it now.. If not, I would wait a year and get it at $6,000 below MSRP with perhaps a $2,000 dealer fee which is what the G8's are selling for now..
