DVD/Nav or MyLink ?
Interesting note, the new 2011/2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 comes with a touchscreen and 30GB harddrive standard. Upgrades to Nav and other goodies for $545+ as an option. (pic of the 392 dash)
I really, really hope the "most technologically advanced Camaro ever built" for $50k comes with at least MyLink standard. Would be a shame to be able to get that in a GT500 (for $50k) or SRT8 392 (for $44k) or even a $25k Hyundai, but not a ZL1. C'mon GM! |

In reality, the ZL1 is designed to go up against the GT500, so why can't it have the same amenity options? Even if you HATE dvd/nav or MyLink, just ask yourself: why can GM's competitors offer their fans these options, but GM can't get it together for us? I have faith that they can, they want to, and hopefully, they will When GM comes out with a Boss 302 competitor designed for the track, then it can have comparable features, aka, no dvd/nav or MyTouch. For the record, the Boss 302 only comes with am/fm/cd in either the 500A or 501A packages -- so while I would be happy if GM offered MORE in its Boss 302 competitor, I wouldn't feel robbed if they didn't. But as of right now, I feel robbed that the ZL1 can't have these things, but Dodge and Ford feel their fans can. |

they were quoted as saying in their blog that the ZL1 will have nav but in the form of onstar free for 1 year. I really think that they are missing the point on this. I really don't think that this is supposed to be an all inclusive ammenities car, but for the price and comparative models it should have it in there! like I have been saying for 2 years since I have had my car, the only thing that missed the mark for me in the interior of the car is right in the center...the RADIO!!

I will say that they should offer it but it won't stop me from buying it. If GM is truly trying to knock the GT500 out of the box, then they should offer the same amenities and maybe a couple more. I'll just slap a Metra kit in and put my own NAV in.

MyLink seems to require the large touchscreen found in the likes of the '13 Malibu....
I don't expect it. However, the car has many of the same features, such as PDIM, Bluetooth, Nav, etc, etc....it's just not all wrapped in a cute little package with a name. Not something I'd want to spend money on, anyways - so personally...at this point, I'm not interested. |

True MyLink requires a large-ish touchscreen, but not necessarily as large as a full nav setup.
I understand their reluctance to NOT put in nav and say 'well it has onstar TBT in the HUD'. And maybe they're contractually locked in with onstar in all models of the camaro that way, and legally can't offer nav. But then at least offer MyLink, which is totally separate. Not only does it provide a visual interface for bluetooth phones, but also for controlling the radio/XM, remote iphone/ipod, and can be used to display info about the car (current mpg, efficiency, etc) which, while yes it can be crammed into the DIC and HUD, no reason not to include it in MyLink. How would the ZL1 control my iphone to let me listen to Pandora? I believe MyLink is also the climate controls too. So yes, installing MyLink is more involved than just slapping in a screen. Except it's the direction cars are going (color touchscreen controls), and Ford (and thus GM) are already scrambling to include it on as many upcoming models as they can. I'm just saying, why would the most technologically advanced Camaro in GM's lineup not be planned to come with their most advanced interface? Why is Ford ok with it but GM is not? Hope it makes it in as an option. |

OnStar TBT sucks...really bad. I spent more time trying to get through to the OnStar rep where I was going than the actual trip took. I also like to see when there are turns coming up on the road ahead of me (especially during "spirited" driving). OnStar doesn't cut it. I'll still buy a Camaro in 2012, but it will have a Garmin mounted in it if there is no in-dash Nav.

It be cool to have a nav, like the new GT500's (2010+) say shelby gt500 and have a cobra logo when you start the car. It be cool to have that in the zl1 and have it pop up as you start it. It really makes you feel like you are driving something special.

As far as NAV goes, if I don't know where I'm going, I look at a map before I leave. I'm oldschool that way. I like controlling audio & phone by touchscreen though. Heck I'd also like voice recognition for controlling those functions. Tell the truth, how many of you would talk to your car like you were a young David Hasselhoff? ... Buncha Liars. "Kitt, play me some driving music." ( on comes 'I Don't Wanna Stop' by Ozzy ) .
