Climate Controls + single din HU?

We all know the situation - you need an in-dash kit like the alpine, scosche, or metra to retain climate controls and put an aftermarket stereo in. 95% of these I hear either complain about the kit not working OR they are combined with an in-dash DVD.

I have a separate GPS. I do not need or want DVD playback capability nor do I need navigation. I want a GOOD, single-din head unit that I can pop in so I can actually install a system. $200 for a head unit is a much better rate then $600-1200 for an in-dash DVD.

does the Alpine or Scosche kit work with single din head units? If not, what are my options? Can Camaro owners not actually even use single din head units? There really hasn't been much clarification on this topic as many people just go with the indash DVD.

Yes. I do not know 100% about the Alpine and Metra kits, but I know for a fact that the Scosche kit comes with a plastic pocket to go in the empty space if you go with a single din. I was seriously considering the Pioneer DEX-P99RS (single din) before I decided on my AVH-P8400BH. I could care less for in-dash navigation (Google Navigation is the best), but I really, really like a back-up camera in this car.

Well, I have a backup camera with my 2LT rs...which is visible in the rear view mirror...so in essence, the only thing i lose really is integration of the backup camera into an in-dash DVD, correct? Aside from that, Scosche is the way to go for a single DIN?

Again, I don't know about the Alpine or Metra kits, but I know that the Scosche has the ability to properly accept a single din.

Both the Scoshe and Metra kit you can use a single din radio.
