Well its good to see some fellow sailors out there that want a real car instead of all the damn rice burners I see out there on base . anyway back to the topic at hand...

I will have about 3 to 4 deployments under my belt plus a reenlistment bonus comming my way so before I get my Camaro (and I'm waiting 'till I get exactly what i want) I should have somewhere between 14K and 20K ready to go!! Now I'm paying off my bills so thats where the big gap comes in but its still going to be a nice chunk of change.

~Cheers!!

My wife and I are both actually saving for my Camaro. We are both in the Air Force and both volunteered to be deployed so that we can pay off all of our credit card bills and other regular daily built up bills. She has been gone about 2 months now and we have already paid off about $6,000-$7,000 in credit bills. Only about $3,000-$4,000 to go till we are finished and can start saving for my Camaro. Luckly she wont have too much to say since she just got a 2007 Ram 1500 Hemi for mothers day. I leave for my deployment here in about a week or so. So by the time my deployment pay starts all bills will be paid.

Starting about Sept about $600 a month will be saved just for my car then in Dec I will have $4,000 to toss in there on it, then in Mar I will have my reenlistment bonus to toss on $3,000, finally I will have my taxes I can toss on as a downpayment/ money to be put on waiting list. I really do not want to finance more than about $20,000. And yes I am going for the V8 big dog.

So all in all I am hoping to have about $12,000 as a down payment... I think I should be able to drive one off the lot once they call and tell me my car is in . If not.... wow I am in trouble.

Hey all. Paid off my morgage a few years early along with the last year on my truck, so as of now(originally I was planning on buying a car this year, glad I decided to wait), I'll be putting little over a grand a month toward my Camaro on top of what I already have set aside. So buy the time 09 get here should be looking pretty good.

Well theoretically it will probably be priced within a few hundred dollars of the comporably equipped Mustang.

So my guess is one of two combinations:

Base V6 = 250 hp = 20-21k
Base V8 = 360 hp = 27-28k
Hi-Po V8 = 430 hp = 32-33k
Top Dog V8 = 500 hp = 40-41k (Introduced at a later date from production start-up)

OR

Base V6 = 250 hp = 20-21k
Hi-Po V6 = 300 hp = 24-25k
Base V8 = 430 hp = 32-33k
Top Dog = 500 hp = 40-41k

Now whether or not they decide to go with one V6 and three V8's (vs.) two V6's and two V8's each is up to GM.

Now, myself, I personally believe that they will use:

-1 V6 (250 hp) which will compete with the entry Mustang (which is supposedly getting a hp boost by 2009)
-The V8 that is going into the Pontiac G8 (362 hp) to compete with the GT (which keep in mind is also due for a hp boost as well...maybe 350 hp)
-The LS3 (430 hp) This will run against all the specialty mustangs (Roush, Saleen, etc.)
-And a Supercharged LS3, somewhere north of 500hp (The GT500 competitor, and Saleen Extreme 281 Competitor.)

And even though i say that the Supercharged LS3 is going to be the GT500 competitor, i really think that a stock non-SC LS3 camaro will run with a stock Mustang GT500. Mostly because the LS3 is already PROVEN to be greatly underrated, but also the weight of the GT500 is one of its biggest setbacks.

Hope this helped.

are you the stig from the british tv show Top Gear? I personally agree with your second group of predictions of the power options offered for the 2009 camaro.

1) This is the "internet", too. Welcome to it.
2) Who is that mysterious "they" you are always referring to?

HAHA, no man. I wish:p

The current "Stig" (white stig) on that show is at the time unidentified.

The former Stig (black stig) was Formula 1 Driver Perry McCarthy.

Im expecting the V8 below the top dog to be 35ish so with that in mind i started saving this month with my first 1000 and will save for the next 9 months the same way, then 500 a month after that till July 09. If price is severely inflated which i believe will happen without a shadow of a doubt, i will keep up the 500 a month until the price comes down to the normal 35K. I havent been here in a while, how's everyone doin? :-)

No kidding you haven't been here in a while!!! Welcome back! Great to hear you're putting money away. I don't think price is going to go over 35K for a top of the line Camaro. You, IMO, should be able to get a very well optioned top end Camaro for that kind of cash.

Read my signature for the answer on cost, its a well beaten topic...

I will have $2500.00 in savings and my Ram paid off to trade in (7-8k trade-in / sale).. even if I had $0.00 come release day I can afford up to about 30-32k for my maro.
