Fuel Economy Estimates?

Mainly I am talking about the V8 here, since that is all I am interested in... so I did a little research.

The 2005 Pontiac GTO is the closest comparison I could think of, so I looked into it a bit:

The 2005 GTO gets
Fuel Type: Premium
MPG (city): 14
MPG (highway): 19
MPG (combined): 16



Annual Fuel Cost $3000 (15K miles @3.20/gallon)!



Other folks at <http://www99.epinions.com/content_174299516548> are reporting 25mph on the highway... which seems somewhat better.

What experience to you have? What mileage do you get in your 4th, 3rd, 2nd or 1st gen?

I'm not looking to save the planet, just to set up my budget accordingly...

My '06 GTO get about 26mpg on the highway in 6th w/ the cruise on so you must be flooring it all the time or they stepped up the mileage like crazy in a year. my avg is about 23ish on the highway, depending on speed. i did read somewhere that they are looking to get mid to high 20's out of the camaro so who knows!! i'll have to try and find that article again.

My 01 Camaro V6 gets CRAPPY fuel mileage IMO, but it could just be me... And I'm sure it could always be worse. But I love her and I'm willing to put up with it lol.

My 4 banger eclipse used to get 21 MPG average. Then I started leaving earlier and just cruised while listening to music. My MPG is now 35.

I don't own a 4th, 3rd, 1st, or GTO for that matter.

As far as the 5th gen is concerned...They were looking at 30+ mpg highway, which is entirely feasable, and welcome! They can do that through AFM, active fuel management; VVT, variable valve timing; direct injection; and very intelligent gearing: two overdrive gears...nice

My 2nd gen, if we're looking for 'afternoon' tidbits, is rated at 16 mpg...and since everything is listed as hwy (because it looks better) thats what I'm assuming it is. But give is a break, we're talkin' 350ci, with a 4 barrel carbeurator, what do you want?!?!

And does the GTO offer AFM? I guess what I'm asking is what engine does it use?

NOTE: I gave the meanings to the abbreviations above merely for those who might not have known...NO SPECIFIC person, just as a courtesy

NOTE 2: a word for a moment on direct injection, and VVT. Direct Injection spritzes Gasoline (or whatever fuel) directly into the Cyllinder, whixh actually cools the air a little, compressing it - albeit minor compression. And VVT can alter Valve timing on-the-fly, which gives an increase in both performance and Fuel economy. It also eliminates the need for a conventional EGR (exaust gas return) system. Together, this is a powerful tool for creating power: i.e. the 300hp V6 that Caddy is using utilizes these advancements together, which, IMO, is the whole reason a V6 of this size can reach those numbers.

But then again, maybe it's not so useless nowadays. I was talking to one of my friends, and they mentioned Honda, and "V-tec"; spouting a bunch of magazine article fluff about it...I asked him, "what?" very innocently, and he said V-tech again. I asked what it did (I'm being a smartass at this point) and he said "it's V-tec man, it helps the engine gain power". I said "how?'' and he couldn't answer. It turns out that he's not alone, and a lot of people do this on all topics, I'm guilty of it, I'll admit: We just spew information that we heard somewhere else, not really knowing what it means, but knowing that it's good for our argument...who'da thought?

I like to stay informed, and knowlegeable about what I'm talking about - so I don't get my foot stuck in the tracks...

Best I ever got was 24, and that was on a 250 mile round trip, lite traffic! On highway!!

My TA gets decent gas mileage as long as I keep my foot out of it. I drove it to NH (750 Miles) and only filled it twice. I left VA with a full tank, and arrived with 1/4 tank. I averaged about 95MPH the whole trip, but I stayed away from full throttle acceleration for the most part. I kept the windows up and the AC on low(it was July). I guess it's supposed to be rated at 18 in the city and 28 on the highway. Sounds about right based on my experience.

I used to average 24 MPG with the LS1 / 6speed manual combo in my 01' SS. That was mostly highway miles, driving to and from work.

(Although it dropped considerably if there were any Rustangs or other "floaters" in the vicinity! )

I'm gonna take a guess at 16 city and 26 highway without AFM or anything like that. Just a guess.

I'll LYK in a few when I fill up. I think I've been getting around 14 city and 24 hwy....coulda been 17 city...not too sure.
