Holy hell. Did you guys find out what happened?

Either he forgot there was a turn there, or had critical brake system failure....that was a lot of speed!!!

Had to be a brake failure. I was at Sebring two years ago and saw a guy in a Corvette lose his brakes approaching the Hairpin, he smashed through a fence and some brush ending up in the parking lot of the Chateau. He was OK but did 5-10K worth of damage to his car. That's why you should keep fresh DOT 4 in your system if going to the track.

I like how the BMW owner said F* IT, and went off-roading to go help him!

My oldest just turned 20 this month and ran the car at TNIA at MSR-Cresson (Texas) the night before (T 4/10) for the first time on a track - he did very well. We were talking about going to Harris Hills sometime for TNIA. Not so much anymore. There seems to be a lot of trees available to interact with, like this, in high speed areas. I'm not naive to say that this is not a dangerous hobby nor that Cresson does not have locations where you can hit something you don't want to. Just reinforces that our hobbies have risk.

Is it even possible to safely pass at Cresson? I don't recall any significant straights.

The run 1.3 CCW (very technical, elevation changes), 1.7 CCW and CW, and 3.1 CCW (the 1.3 and 1.7 combined). On TNIA, it is only ran 1.7 CCW, the "easiest". There are two main straights and one smaller one. The two mains are used by the Novice and Intermediate for passing zones. Plenty of width and length.

RSFR, let us know what you find out what happened. Was he on stock tires, stock pads, etc.? Glad he was okay, of course.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to talk to him after the crash. The guy is a seasoned HPDE enthusiast and has driven at that track many times before. He has a dedicated track car that currently has a blown engine. The ATS-V he was driving was his daily driver and he had been driving very aggressively the whole day. I suspect he over cooked the brakes and had nothing left for that corner. If I hear anything differently, I'll post another update.

Good info - thanks. How do you like this track compared to Eagle's Canyon?

To keep on topic, PM me if you want more info. Answering quickly: ECR is cool in it's own way but is rough and is a majority of straights. MSR-Cresson is not as sexy as COTA for the amount of $ in the facility, but, the MSR-Cresson 3.1 is more challenging and fun than COTA in my opinion.
