Stalls don't work like you describe...a 4k stall does not have to rev to 4k in order to start moving....the 4k rpm is the flash rating of the converter. It's complicated but just know that 3k to even 3500 stalls are very streetable and after a few weeks you won't even notice them...it will feel normal.

my 4th gen got 20 with me ragging on it. this car being as gentle as somone like me can be? 17. The difference? well the 4th gen had highway gears (2.73 gu2) and a 4 speed auto.. this car has.. ??? gears and a 6 speed auto. weight is a factor too I'm sure, but this thing has like 400 tings to improve fuel economy.. 6 gears, PROBABLY a ~3.07 rearend, VVT, AFM.. is GM moving backward? I think I may be able to get SOME fuel economy back by getting rid of the nannies tbh.. I'm not used to them, and my foot won't accept them. As soon as AFM comes on I rev out of it.. the constant accelerate/coast nature of my driving is probably hurting it. with Torque management and AFM my truck got 14.8mpg. Without TM and lightened up AFM my truck gets 16. I want to change the power. The L99 makes what like ~310whp stock? Gotta do better than that. |

L99 ships with something like a 3.27 gear. Check our Wiki to confirm. How are you measuring mileage to compare these cars' mpg? |

I have a 3400 stall and drive it everyday. The first couple days
it felt weird but I don't even notice it know. This MPG you speak of I know nothing about. I use MPT (mile per tank), which is about 150.

Correct a little larger stall like this you it will feel alittle different but you get used to it rather fast and dont even notice it.

if I only get 150 miles a tank I'll be filling up every 2 days. I got my car 4/18 with 25 miles on it. It's now 5/10 and I have over 3100. I calculated mileage on the 4th gen by the gallons used/miles per tank. I calculate mileage on this car with the car's fuel economy tab in the info center. 10 gallons used to get me 200 miles in the 4th gen. In this car it takes 13-16 gallons to get 200 miles. AFM seems to come on when the car thinks you're at a consistent speed. The problem is with the nuances of the road, as soon as it kicks in you lose sufficient power to maintain speed, and have to accelrate, making it turn right back off. It seems to come on most often at slower speeds, that's when it's the most noticable anyway. I don't know if it comes on other times, but you can watch the HUD and as soon as it kicks in I drop3-5mph and it's a real struggle to get them back. |

Correct lock up is nice and all these converters are lock up to me lock up is better than over drive as far as street driving. On a l99 a converter and tires are going to be the best bang for the buck for a car that's going to see the track. A good converter, tires, bolt on's and a little nitrous and you have a good 11 sec camaro for just a little money.

Wow.. looking at the Fbody gathering website.. $44 to register your car.. I thought it was cheaper than that. (actually, they've stopped registration at this point.. so $50 at the "gate.")

was looking at other people's numbers. People are squeezing big cams into these L99s and doing Ls3 conversions and still barely topping the 400whp range, and NOT topping 400wtq.
http://**************************-cama...ers-video.html boost seems to be the only way to beat these motors into producing some tangible power. Still not sold on the turbo kit. It's pricey, and frankly the location of the turbo concerns me for a daily driver all-weather car like mine is. Unless there's ice on the roads I'm takin it. Flooding.. snowing.. my car is the ups man of vehicles... and I think the turbo's location is a little concerning for that, and a number of other reasons. Was looking at the TVS2300 stage 1. about $6500 plus install (probably $2k to install..).. a heavy pill to swallow since it has to be done all at once, but n/a these motors can't seem to do it without sacrificing something. |
