Experienced comparison V6 vs. V8
I've been hanging around this forum for about a year now, a month or so before I got my first 2010 Camaro. I've finally taken the plunge to be more involved in this forum by starting my own thread. I've chosen a well-worn conversation for starters.
I've seen many debates on here concerning the V6 vs. V8. My biggest problem with most of the comments is that it appears very, very few come from folks that have had a good chunk of drive experience in both types of vehicles. Well, I'd like to hear from those that HAVE experience. My first '10 camaro was a manual V6, ABM. I loved the car and drove it for approximately 4 months. However, I was always curious about what a V8 would feel like, so I test drove one. Well, that did it. Due to a change in my financial world, I was able to afford the V8. I got one (rally yellow, black stripes, RS, A6) and have been driving it for about the same time as the V6. Okay, finally to the meat of this post and hopefully this thread. Having had a decent go at both versions, I can easily say that they are truly different animals. From the feel of the interior to the obvious boost in HP, I believe the V8 is a vastly superior machine. Also, and this is key, I think the V8 is WAY more fun than the V6. I honestly don't speed, at least not regularly, but the power I have to simply get out of people's way is superb. Permagrin indeed. So, I'd love to hear from more folks with some decent drive time behind both versions. |

Would you drive your SS 110 miles a day as your daily driver, and some bumper to bumper traffic?

I own both models, and I truly enjoy driving my wifes v6, and I really can't tell a difference except the obvious HP, but the feel to me is the same.

Yup, my SS is a daily driver. Probably put 70-90 miles/day average on it. Same thing when I owned the V6. One thing that I noticed was how much smoother the ride of the V8 was.

Will be driving my V6 about 120 miles per day 6 days a week. Bought it for the fuel economy. For the difference in power, I'll pull out the 68 or 73 and have fun in those.

I'm thinking' this thread will easily breakout into a V6 vs V8 brawl at anytime now.

I'm not sure how the OP can say the feel of the interior on the V8 is any better than the V6. I believe the 1LT and 1SS have identical interiors and same goes for the 2LT and 2SS.
As far as the HP power goes, who really cares. The people that got the V6 got it for there own reasons and the people that got the V8 got it for there own reasons. It really doesn't matter what anyone else says. |

I would have loved to get the V8 as well and congrats for you to afford it. I might have been able to get the V8 but the insurance and gas would have killed me lol. The V6 will already be by far the most powerful vehicle i have ever driven so i should be happy with that for quite a while.
Besides the power of the V8 it also has the much better sound but the V6 has some options as well so its not all bad. |
