I think it shouldn't be called the Z28. As mentioned many times before, the Z was a beast, but a stripped down, all performance one that was affordable. From the sounds of this Camaro, it's not going to be affordable, it's going to be a loaded to the 9's beast.
For that reason, I say no. However, if it was made affordable, then I'd contemplate changing my vote. Is it also possible they are working on a Z28 still? Or has this been confirmed not to be happening.

I don't care what it is called or will be called. If GM wants to name it something new and break from heritage then that will be fine. They will simply be adding another weapon to the arsenal. Call it a Mongoose, Panther or HiPer Edition or HP or whatever name they desire. All I know is that it will be badass and create it's own legacy.....and I will have one.

The 1st gen. Z/28 was neither stripped down, nor was it, (in 1969 dollars) affordable.

At this point, the thread and poll is all based on the ASSUMPTION that they're not sure what to call it. And that assumption comes from here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124078
The presenters never once mentioned the name "Z28" to attending dealers. It could be a marketing ploy....it could be an alias to preserve plausible deniability (What Z28? )...but just in case they weren't sure what to call it, I thought it would be interesting to hear what enthusiasts-at-large thought. The more I think about it....and I've been thinking about it a lot, lately...it would be a HUGE mistake not to call this car a Z28. SLP has capitalized on the "ZLx" name, which rules out "ZL1" in my opinion...too much chance of confusion. And I don't think a car with this much interest can afford to be called something new. The heritage behind the Z28 name is monumental. I think the chances of yet another high-performance Camaro coming out for the 5th generation is slim-to-none...market interest and CAFE have seen to that....so if they don't use the Z28 name now....I'm afraid it'll never be used for a long time. Talk about a tragedy!!! The argument against Z28 based solely on the first generation, I think is weak one. I mean, it's got some logic behind it...but what about every other generation of Camaro? I guess what I'm saying is that formulas change....who'd ever have thought the iconic Impala name would have been attached to a FWD car? But it has and one could argue successfully.... Still....this is all one big "What If"...and it's very interesting to see the pulse of the community on this subject. |

Z/28, no question if you ask me. if this car is not named Z/28, then it will be a while before they use that name again, if ever. too many ppl are excited about the Z/28, not a nameless beast-maro. they want the beast to be a Z/28. i dont have the money to buy this car, and wouldnt have it for a looong time. but if i did, id buy it either way, and if it wasnt called the Z, id just order some Z/28 logos and put them on myself. id want the Z, so id get the Z either way

I think they should call it Z/28. Not Z28. Not HP Edition. Not some new name.
Its like a no brainer to me. Magnetic ride control...sounds like its made for the twisties.

Z28 yes or no i dont mind
The Z28 is its heritage ....its history, and history is made every day! Maybe its time for the next chapter in Camaro history. Maybe the the baddest Camaro ever made needs a new name? a name that we will remember 25 years from now? like the Z28 from the past. We all have been screaming about a new Z28 since the new 5th gen, I think if GM was going to name this one the Z28 they would have in the recent dealer meeting instead of an "HP edition". All we can do is wait, time will tell! |

556 horse!
My 1st inclination is "who cares what they call it with 550+ horse"! 67 Z/28 simply had hood and trunk stripes to differentiate. The RPO was Z28 and could be ordered with many other but not all options. The SS was top dog in the line up. I would simply make it a performance package option then drive another option with a track suspension (Z28). The track or Z28 option could be limited to the HP engine really making it special. Ordering a 67-69 Z meant disc brakes, better front swar bar, 4speed trans and different front/rear springs. The car laid low in stance and handled better than an SS Camaro.
Over time the Z28 became more and more appreciated. That 4x3 engine really screamed and made some decent HP above 5K RPM. RPO the LSA option then give us the chance to add a Z28 suspension with less understeer and better traction. I'm down for that!
