The oil is the worst part of the kit.We always wash most of the oil out of the filters.

Think of this - oil pulls into motor. On the way in it sticks/collects on the mass air meter. With this oil film on the meter the meter can not do it's job right. The meter thinks there is less air flow going into the motor, then the computer reads the 02 voltages and decides to add more fuel into the car because the meter say's it's lean. While the L-terms go positive the tranny controller pulls fluid line pressure from the tranny. On the older cars tranny failure got pretty common from this.

So,back to the point. The oiled filter screws with the sensors.

Thats a big difference.Make sure you keep all the paperwork on it.Depending on how bent the valve is it could stress the connecting rod in that cylinder.

glad it's gonna be covered! I hope the guy doing the work is competent.
did they give any indication of why this happened? if a lean condition caused it to run too hot it could have affected all of the exhaust valves, not just one. hopefully he'll fully inspect it while he has it apart.

One more question, how many miles do you have on it? how many miles since the CAI? any other mods?

please keep us updated

Definitely interested. I pick up my 2SS/RS/LS3 on Thursday and one of the first mods I'll do is CAI.

The failure was at 4082 miles. I had the CAI at the 1200 mile mark. I don't know if gmpp sell there products...but I know they have a working relationship with there ZL cars

When or have you done your first oil change? Any tiny bit of debris that the oil might have had in it could momentarily jam a valve.

I have been using oiled filters for over 10 years (K&N) on all my cars, 1997 Chev Silverado, 2002 Nissan Maxima, 2007 Chev Suburban and have NEVER had issues. If you oil it properly and on the correct side, you should never have any issues. For the ones that have had issues, did they oil it on both sides?

that could be the case...the tech told me not to change the oil unless the car tells me to. i was wondering does the oil monitor work as effective as the tech claims

I don't think it matters if there is a little oil on the filter or not. Think about it, there is always a little bit of oil coming in through the PCV hose, thats why some people install catch cans. Well, actually the main difference is oil from a filter is befoer the MAF.
