It's a BOY!!!

At 10:51am this morning, my wife and I welcomed our second child into this world.

We have been going to the doc's office every week over the past month. Dean, our newborn, was waaaaay larger than he should have been for how far along we were in the pregnancy. Then again, we kind of push out big babies!

Our first, Dylan, was born at 9lbs and 15oz's. Yup, he was huge!

So, after finding out the birth weight of our first, and finding that #2 was larger than normal, my wife went to a specialist. The specialist said we had two weeks to go and guestimated his weight to be 9.7lbs. We didn't want complications and decided to induce early. It just so happens that this time was right in line w/ Deans grandfathers birthday (today). We decided that today would be the perfect day...grandpa and baby born on the same date.

The labor was extremely fast. Epidural and she went from 3cm to 9cm in, oh, about an hour. Dean pushed himself out w/ little help. He was born so fast that he didn't get the chance to get all the fluid pushed out of his lungs. He had to go to the ICU for a while, but is doing fine. He was on air for an hour, but they took him off. They are watching him overnight, but should be fine.

His birth weight was 9lbs and 10oz. They measured him in at 20 3/4 inches (I'm going to measure him later...I think he's longer:p ). But, I've got to run and get back to the hospital. Dropped in for some stuff and to say hello!

I'll post up some pix as soon as I get the chance!

Wow Tag. Congrats!!! That boy is almost as big as I was when I was born (23 7/8 inches and 9lbs. 13oz.) He's going to be tall when he gets older. Measure him on his second birthday and double it. That will be ~ how tall he will get to be full grown.

Having #2 be bigger isn't necessarily a bad thing. #2's normally are larger and come out easier (according to a majority of my past clients). I used to run a Birth Center in SF for about a year so I've seen quite a few births.

Just a side noted question though. I'm always curious as to what kind of woman the mother is. I've seen people wince but not make much onoise outside labored breathing and grunts/groans. I've always seen little 5 foot nothing soft-spoken hispanic women turn into the devil's incarnate (Think Doctor Claw from Inspector Gadget but screaming). Hope all is well and congradulations again on your second blessing!

Thanks to all!!! Dean is out of the NICU and is now in the room w/ us. He's doing GREAT! It's non-stop w/ family and friends coming to visit. We've been trying to get some alone time and got some pretty good sleep last night (had the vitals nurse come in at 3:30am yesterday morning to wake up my wife...she wasn't too pleased.. hehe). But, we still got plenty of sleep last night.

Mindz, to answer your question... My wife is 29 years old, is 5'7", and has the child bearing hips (she's curvy...just like I like'em! ). With Dylan, our first, she was in A LOT of pain. Doc's think his head was pressing on a nerve or something because she was in constant pain...then the contractions hit and it was lots'o pain which was much worse:( . Once she was given the epidural, she was doing MUCH better...but was still in some pain.

With Dean, she had slight pain w/ regular contractions. She hit the 3cm mark and was given the epidural. She was fine....no pain. She didn't grunt. She didn't make any noises. She just pushed holding her breath. Now, as I said before, this was a FAST delivery. So, she was only pushing for a max of 7 minutes:eek: . The nurse wanted to do "practice pushing." Uh...no. His head was crowning on the 4th push and the nurse had to call the delivery doctor telling her to "RUN." The nurse then had to push on his head keeping him in until doc got there.

Once the Doctor got there, my wife pushed once and seriously, Dean was pushing himself out. He came right out VERY fast...which is why he still had fluid in his lungs. It was quick. My wife didn't feel a thing and had zero complications.

Again, thank you all for the congrats. As soon as I get the family home and have a few minutes to download the pix, I'll post them up for all to see our beautiful baby boy Dean.
