Z-28 won't fly with a LS3.....1LE, perhaps...., and that would not be my cup of tea either....we need more power Mr. Scott,....

If you look at BOTH surveys (one asking "but it better be BOSS-worthy", the other outright askin' 'bout "more power"), there is a SIGNIFICANT vote for "Scotty, give us MORE!"

... and 3.73 rears would make it feel pretty close ratio with 2.66 first gear and 3.42 rears, it would feel slow, I'm going to guess Scott is referencing the MG9 AND the 3.73 tail.

Decals, pretty graphics and paint jobs a race car do not make. If they put MRC on an FE4 current style SS with an LS3 and 3.73 gears...fine, call it a 1LE. If they go any further beyond that and put the ZL1 tranny, axles, rear axle housing etc.. in it, and there is not at least a LS7 in the engine bay...it's a no-go for a Z-28. That's Carnac's read on it...

With a 2.66 1st, monster 20s, and a 3.42, you'd get a speedin' ticket before you got into 2nd...j/k
The 2.97-3.42 MN6 package has a theoretical total 1st gear ratio just about the same as the 2.66-3.73 set-up. It's just that, after 1st, the MG9 is so nice 'n close...just like your best girl, at the drive-in movies on a cool night! YeeHAAAW! Carnac, I found that mayonnaise jar on Funk 'n Wagnell's porch...and you's in a heap o' trouble, boy! That weren't no mayo... |

It's the mystique surrounding Z28 - I never even heard of a ZL1 before they announced the C5 version. The Z28 on the other hand was basically the dream car of everyone at my high school. High school kids buying used 1980's Z28's Next would be the rumors that a spot needs to be filled between the SS and the ZL1 - that sounds like a great pricepoint to help my childhood dreams come true! And it's gotta be a vert! |
