New tire pains

Some jackass left a screw in the road and I managed to find it.

I thought some might want to know a new front right tire cost me $554.51 (installed). (Strangely, a new front left tire would've been a bit more, according to The Tire Rack.)

Hopefully the new one lasts more than 600 miles.

Wouldn't it be great if we could figure out who did it and send them the bill??? Or send them to jail. Maybe that's too harsh.

Not really....that's a lot $$ of which could have been put to better use. The more screw or nail in tire replacement threads I read the more I wish I'd of kept the tire/wheel insurance the dealer was offering. It would have paid for itself on the first tire.

ouch. these tires are only $389 shipped from tire rack. they offer road hazard for $30 a tire.

tire places suck IMO. I got re-ended in my 300c. had 285/35-22 toyo's. only needed one tire got a $450 quote from les schwab told them no way. went to a les scwab 10 miles away asked for a quote for 4 tires it was 238 per tire. just bought one at $238.

same company just asked for the price for 4 instead of one. saved $200.

That is the way to go right there! I'll be getting a 1LE soon to replace my SS. I bought the road side and haven't used it once, waste of money for me.

Another reason why I would have purchased the tire/rim warranty for these cars no brainer 1 replacement time covers the cost.

I did a tire warranty on my car. (and I never buy extended warranties.) 3 years and it covers the car not the specific tires. So damage done to any tire or rim on the car is covered. One nail and it is paid for. Cost me $2 a month. With the number if people getting punctures I am glad I did.

The tire/wheel warranty would have been good, but it was $845 at my dealership and I've never needed one before, so I passed. It's still wouldn't have paid for itself. Now that I've said that, I'll probably get another flat on the way home...

Yes, I saw the Tire Rack price, too. I'm consoling myself that shipping would have been expensive and then I would've had to add labor for the install and balancing, so I'm not sure the tire shop I used was out of line. (I do, however, think the nitrogen they used, and charged me for, is a scam. The air is mostly N2 anyway.)

That's ridiculous that a chain tire place varied so much by location.

One bright side - while I was at the tire place, some guy was there getting work done to his Ferrari 612, flat black. I had never seen one before; very cool!

All three of my cars have it, just for that reason ... You just never know and things have a way of biting me what I don't cover them.

There is another thread about a high number of people getting nails in tires. I also had to replace a tire within the first 600 miles.

...roadways can be an unfortunate nuisance for bolts, screws, and nails, when I drive I am lookiing for foreign substances on the road and often see bolts and screws and avoid them...but also I would like to mention one has to be wary of home improvement store parking lots....I see them more often than not laying about there.

that price I quoted was shipped. MT balance would have been $15 or so.

Like I said they always take you for a ride when buying one tire. on that rear end insurance job they wanted to just kill me on the price. I had a a day two so I was able to just go to the less schwab I bougtht the tires from originally and they gave the 4 tire price on one. I wanted to choke the guy out that quoted me $450 a tire. I am looking at my orginal reciept at $238 going????

sometimes you just need it now and have to pay it.

On my motorcycles I only replace damaged tires(for obvious reasons), but for a car I don't understand why you don't have it repaired? Am I missing something?

Nail in the sidewall cannot be repaired... that would be one reason. Then other would be doing 150+ on a patched tire.

BTW My tire/rim warranty was $400 but they offered a .5% discount on my loan interest rate making the effective cost under $150.00 to me due to that discount.
